Gulf Oil Spill Could Reach Gulf Coast By The Weekend - Drill, Baby, Drill, Indeed

by: Dardango

Wed Apr 28, 2010 at 17:00:00 PM CDT

The Gulf of Mexico Disaster of 2010

A couple of year ago, I remember being angered by an NPR report about the Blue Hog Democrats pushing to increase offshore drilling, despite the concerns of environmental and tourism advocates. A month ago they were all tweaked about Obama's plan to give them what they want.

In light of this disaster in the Gulf, the oil from which scientists are saying will probably start washing up on shore as early as this weekend, I wonder how the corporate sellouts feel now.

"I believe it is a very evil and wicked religion." -- Really?

by: piggieheart

Mon Apr 26, 2010 at 19:11:22 PM CDT

The quote in my title is from the Rev. Franklin Graham, (yes, Billy's boy), speaking about Islam. When he made this less-than-illuminating statement, he was dis-invited from a scheduled appearance at the Pentagon.  His dismissal led to this comment from noted defender of religious freedom, Sarah Palin.

"Are we really so hyper-politically correct that we can't abide a Christian minister who expresses his views on matters of faith? What a shame."

Really, matters of faith? Dissing another of the great religions of the world is a matter of faith? Is she willing to stand up for Muslims who point out the sordid history of Christianity down through the ages?

Let's walk through this together below the fold.

Sarah Palin's Right: You Should Run on Energy

by: Heather TaylorMiesle NRDC Action Fund

Mon Apr 19, 2010 at 12:14:34 PM CDT

Over the past week, Sarah Palin encouraged Tea-Party candidates to make energy issues a central part of their campaigns. "There's nothing stopping us from achieving energy independence that a good old national election can't fix," she said.

Palin's full of surprises, but this piece of campaign advice caught me off-guard. After all, a recent poll found that energy is the issue that inspires the most faith in Democratic lawmakers. Since President Obama made clean energy a central part of their campaign in 2008, this poll suggests that this is what the majority of people want.  Therefore, Democrats AND Republicans should all be running on clean energy.

PalinPalooza Headed for Birmingham

by: mooncat

Thu Apr 08, 2010 at 13:30:02 PM CDT

Because God knows those poor sods in Hoover are oppressed by all the tax dollars spent there on roads, hospitals and other federal programs.  They must have a shoulder to cry on.

Former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin's father and brother will attend a Tea Party event April 15 in Hoover, organizers announced.

Chuck Heath and Chuck Heath Jr. are scheduled to appear at the Rainy Day Patriots' Tax Day Tea Party event, which is to run from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. in Hoover's Veteran's Park. The men's appearance is sponsored by Lee Davis of radio station 101.1 WYDE, the Stan Cooke for U.S. Congress campaign and the Tim James for Governor campaign.

Maybe Sarah's dad will tell the Hoover folks how ...

... the presence of so many Asians and Pacific Islanders made her uncomfortable [in Hawaii]: “They were a minority type thing and it wasn’t glamorous, so she came home.”

Sarah don't need no stinkin' teleprompter

by: mooncat

Tea Party Palin

Sensitive to widespread conservative criticism that Barack Obama uses a teleprompter during speeches (bet the Republicans are glad Obama didn't have a teleprompter when he ripped them a new one recently!) Sarah Palin used paper notes for her speech at the Tea Baggers Convention.  For Q&A, Palin was even more low tech, consulting notes written on the palm of her hand.

Of course, she got caught.

Sarah Palin, every bit as clever as the average 9th grader.

Gosh, I love that Mudflats blog!

Tea Party Concept Gone Awry?

by: mooncat

Thu Jan 28, 2010 at 18:00:00 PM CST

I found this video extremely interesting.  Stsheetrock appears to be a libertarian, Ron Paul believer sort concerned that the Tea Party movement has been co-opted by folks who want to "crush Obama's skull."  He's also disgusted by the fact that Sarah Palin is being paid a whopping $100,000 ($549 per head, $349 for Palin speech only, for the masses) to speak at the National Tea Party Convention in Nashville next week when Ron Paul apparently isn't speaking at all -- although Judge Roy Moore is.

This guy seems sincerely disappointed that the more or less astroturf corporate conservative types have co-opted the original grassroots movement.  Is this feeling common among libertarians, I wonder?

No $400 Hairdo for Sarah Palin

by: mooncat

Fri Dec 18, 2009 at 13:18:00 PM CST

The Killa' from Wasilla is cleverly avoiding the expensive hairstyle gaffe that has plagued more than one good looking political hopeful.  Sarah Palin has come up with a solution uniquely her own -- just stiff the hairdresser.

I swear I am not making this up.

And, They're Off

by: Osborne Ink

Tue Nov 24, 2009 at 18:35:37 PM CST

As you've no doubt heard, Sarah Palin has a slight lead in early straw polling for the 2012 GOP nomination. The Republican front-runners both have book tours going on, and were at one time scheduled to sign books at different times on the same day in the same store. Instead, 1,800 people turned up for 1,000 free armbands to see either of the undeclared candidates.

I hope to have video finished tomorrow. If so, you will see it here first.

Despite it being her primary mode of contact with fans, Palin never updated her Facebook page. It appears no one in the campaign realized her visit to Fort Hood was supposed to end 3.5 hours beforehand -- 529 miles away from Birmingham. The only reason I went was in hopes of seeing Teh Train Wreck™ have another meltdown.

There's One Born Every Minute ...

by: mooncat

Mon Nov 23, 2009 at 08:49:05 AM CST

The Going Rogue Express hits Homewood today and the faithful have already lined up to pay thirty bucks or so for a book available for $14.50 at Amazon as little as $4.97 elsewhere.  There's a story behind the $4.97 price -- this is how releases from the right always end up on the bestseller lists from the get-go.  Organizations like NewsMax preorder tens of thousands of copies of a book, then unload them at a deep discount to inflate sales numbers and get their conservative message out.

One thousand people from Alabama and other southeastern states got pink wristbands from a Colonial Brookwood Village bookstore today so they can get former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to sign copies of her book "Going Rogue" for them on Monday.

Palin will start signing at 4:30 today.  It's apparently Old Republicans Day in Homewood -- Mike Huckabee will be signing his book at 3 pm, same place.

Hope Sarah doesn't decide to quit early again ...

All Politics All The Time

by: Redeye

Wed Oct 28, 2009 at 10:32:21 AM CDT

Being the true political junkie that I am, I usually begin my day waking  to The Tom Joyner Morning Show on my clock radio so I can hear what black folks are talking about. Then I tune in to C-Span's Washington Journal to hear what "real Americans are talking about, then I flip/flop between Morning Joke, I mean Joe on MSNBC and American Morning on CNN.  Then I boot up my trusty desk top, log on to Left in Alabama to find out what's really going on in the world of politics.

Tom Joyner Morning show roundup;

A six-year-old who saw her mother brutally gunned down on the streets of Brooklyn two years ago has written a letter to first daughters Sasha and Malia Obama asking them for support.

Come next month, if Atlanta winds up electing its first white mayor in more than three decades, it won’t mark a step back to the days of Old Dixie.

The state of Alabama may soon get another black female to represent in Congress. This year, four out of seven candidates on the ticket are African-American women. They follow in the footsteps of Laura Hill, the first black woman to successfully run for Congress in Alabama’s 19th district.

More on the flip side.

The Media is a Liar

by: Redeye

Mon Aug 17, 2009 at 15:16:12 PM CDT

The same media that enabled Bush and Dick to lie us into war in Iraq are lying to us about health care reform. In case you haven't been paying  attention, the majority of the talking heads giving commentary (not facts) about health care reform on TeeVee are majority anti health care reform.  They always get the first and the last word.  They don't disclose their corporate ties and they outnumber the health care reform supporters 2-1.   It's like Deja Voodoo all over again.

I watched and listened to the so called "debate" on TeeVee over the weekend, and I'm still trying to figure out how HHS Secretary Selibus comment that the White House was open to considering co-ops in a health care reform bill translated into being reported in the media the public option was "dead" or "off the table". Immediately, the anti health care crowd began spreading the "news" that a "compromise" was in the works and congratulating themselves for defeating President Obama.  Pat Buchanan could hardly contain himself on Morning Joke, I mean Joe this morning.  He said we could put a fork in Obama because he was done.

This is just another example of how the media we have turns the winners into the losers.  The majority of the American people elected President Obama on November to reform health care.  The media we have is so busy trying to break him and make him break a campaign promise they use the public airways to promote misinformation and downright lies.

The media uses code words like "real Americans" to describe the anti reform Obama haters as if the those that support health care reform and President Obama aren't.  The media lies and claims "A majority of Americans are against health care reform."  They must really think we are stoopid because the majority of Americans elected President Obama not John McSame on November 8, 2008.

The majority of the people visibly protesting are not against health care reform.  They are the same people who attended the Palin rally's and called President Obama a socialist and said he was promoting socialism and walking around with stuffed Monkeys.  They are the same people who said President Obama wasn't a "real American" and a Muslim.  They are the same people who cast their vote for John McCain and Sarah Palin.  They are the LOSERS, make that the SORE LOSERS.

The squeaky wheel gets the oil (pun intended) in the media.  Right now the well financed losers are squeaking the loudest.  Why aren't lefty's/democrats/progressives drowning them out?

The Truth shall see you FREE h/t Jim Dean Democracy for America (he says "wrong again", I say lies again);

The media is wrong... again.

Let's be clear: A Health care bill without a public option is D.O.A. in the House. Period.

To pass any bill in the House they need at least 218 votes but 64 House Democrats have stood up and said they will not vote for a bill without a public option. That means a bill without a public option would only have 193 votes.

You got that mainstream media talking teevee pundit heads?

The New N Word

by: Redeye

Fri Aug 14, 2009 at 17:47:19 PM CDT

Socialist is the new N word i.e. Obama is a Socialist.  Socialism is the new code word for welfare.  Healthcare reform is socialism.   Haven't we been down the code word route before?

Seriously, I heard the term socialist and socialism chanted over and over again by the anti healthcare reform people in the parking lot of Jefferson Beauregaurd (Azaela Trail Maids) Sessions town hall meeting yesterday. I wondered if they could even define socialism or even knew what the term meant, because if they did they would know it doesn't apply to President Obama as Sarah ( I can see Russia from my house) Palin labeled him.

PTCruiser at jackandjillpolitics.com  reminded me of the historical use of the word;

the terms "socialist" and "communist" were among the favorite epithets hurled at Black Americans, their allies and organizations such as the NAACP before, during and after the Civil Rights Movement. In fact, these terms have been used since the early 20th Century, if not before, to discredit and stigmatize men and women fighting for social justice.

So now we know..the term is used to describe someone who is fighting for social justice, not someone who is trying to take our freedoms away.  President Obama and others can wear the lable proudly.

I watched Faux News so you won't have to.

by: Redeye

Mon Jul 13, 2009 at 22:20:10 PM CDT

A good friend of mine told me they take their blood pressure medicine and watch Faux News every night.  When I asked why they would do something stoopid like that, they replied because forewarned is forearmed and so they would know how and what righty's think (now there's an oxymoron for you).  Prior to tuning in to the Faux News Talking Pundit Heads  I started to pour a stiff drink of my favorite alcoholic beverage, but I didn't want my preception to be, cough, cough, impaired :).  So, armed with an arsenal of sock bombs to throw at the TeeVee if needed,  I settled in for an evening of watching Faux News.  This is my report;

Only in Hannity's America.  The highlight of Sean's show was reporting the Supermax Prision in Denver, CO tried to ban terrist Abib AckmanMohamed Mumbo Jumbo from reading President Obama's books because they were deemed a "terrist threat".. Yadda, yadda, blab, blab, blah, blah. Two sock bombs.

On the Record with Greta Von Sustern  with Lil Lindsey Graham on Judge Sotomayor's confirmation hearing.  Lil Lindsey said he didn't know if he was going to vote for Sotomayor or not because of her "radical statement about abortion".  Ralph Hallow from The Washington Times talking about Sarah Palins' plan to campaign for republicans and democrats (what democrat would want Sarah Palin to campaign for them and why?).   Former Congressman Rick Santorum (r. PA) bashed Palin's almost son-in-law Levi Johnson, and defended Sarah Palin against the mean old media attacks. ( I wonder why Greta didn't ask him about the racist pool in Philly?).  The only interesting story was about the Penguin Love Triangle where *gasp* same sex female penguins were a couple who even hatched an egg together until a male penguin appeared and made one of them ungay.  4 sock bombs.

Unreality check with Bill O'Rielly.  He's still hating on Michael Jackson and Chris Brown with some Louis Farrakkan thrown in for good measure.  Everyone who disagrees with him or questions him is either a moron or a pin head (where have we heard that before?).  Speaking of things we've heard before, check out the God, Global Warming and Obama talking points.  Race and the Supreme Court , according to BillO, the real deal is Sotomayor is the product of a system that  celebrates her minority status and has created doubts about her ability to be fair, if she turns out to be another Ruth Bader Gingsberg we are in big trouble.  Rut Roh!  Karl Rove just made an appearance!  Rove said congress wasn't briefed because the program was just an idea not a program and they didn't tell Congress because they might leak it to the New York Times, it's about protecting Nancy Pelosi and protecting our country in a time of war.

I can't take it anymore.  I'm going to have a stiff drink after I deplete my sock bomb arsenal.

And we wonder why the rightwing is so misinformed?

The Quittah' from Wasilla ...

by: mooncat

Mon Jul 06, 2009 at 06:48:00 AM CDT

Sarah Palin criticizes Hillary Clinton's "percieved whine" about the mean old media in March 2008.  Palin's position on "whining" has, shall we say, evolved a bit since then.

... fair or unfair, I think she does herself a disservice to even mention it really. I mean you've got to plow through that ... When I hear a statement like that, coming from a woman candidate with any kind of perceived whine about that excess criticism or maybe a sharper microscope put on her, I think that doesn't do us any good.  ...  I don't think it bodes well for her, a statement like that ...  She is going to be under that sharper microscope.  So be it.  Work harder.  Prove yourself to an even greater degree that you're capable, that you're going to be the best candidate ...

It feels different when the shoe is on your foot.  Sarah Palin couldn't walk 50 feet in Hillary Clinton's shoes, let alone a mile.
