Republican War On Women: GOPers Getting Cold Feet On Forced Transvaginal Ultrasound

by: mooncat

Turns out state mandated rape of pregnant women is not as much of a winner as some Republicans expected, including Virginia governor Bob McDonnell (R).  McDonnell, who has grandiose plans to be a VP nominee, is backing off his committment to sign the forced ultrasound bill.  And now the Virginia House of Delegates is dropping the transvaginal probe provisionReally, really big government, courtesy of the party who preaches small government and keeping the government out of our private lives.

The mandated transvaginal ultrasound reminded me of the Inquisition, and apparently I'm not the only one.

Really, really big government - hmmm... (4.00 / 2)

You know, the sort of government that not only tells you how to do everything, but is everywhere.  Kind of like universal, don't you know...one size fits all, and all fit one size...what's the word for that...oh yeah, catholic!

And of course, once you know that, the term Roman Catholic, and its association with the "brand" of the Roman Empire, and the whole marketing campaign behind it for the last 2000 years, takes on a whole new meaning, doesn't it?

Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passion, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence.

Alabama's also ... (4.00 / 2)
Check out  http://www.wsfa.com/story/16996932/senate-committee-clears-bill-requiring-ultrasounds-before-abortions to see some coverage on our own transvaginal legislation.  We've an ultrasound requirment already but perhaps it's not sufficient for the ideologues.  It's SB 12 for any wanting to read its language.  It's "using either a vaginal transducer or an abdominal transducer, whichever would display the embryo or fetus more clearly."  Scary stuff!  I still believe that if men could get pregnant, choice would be enshrined in our US and state constitutions. Respectfully, john gunn

A lot of things would be different, lol.

SB12, sponsored by Sen. Clay Schofield (R), has been passed out of the Senate Health Committee.  In true conservaspeak, it's named the "Right to Know and See" act.

Clay Schofield apparently got his medical degee from Auburn (4.00 / 1)
According to his bio, he's a farmer.  Not sure why he think's he's qualified to legislate medical procedures.

We have a governor who is an M.D.  However, his knowledge is only skin-deep.

Zing! (4.00 / 1)
An old dermatologist joke, but a good one.  Has anyone in the media asked Dr. Gov. Bentley if he will sign these Republican laws mandating unnecessary and invasive, not to mention expensive, medical procedures?  And if not, why not?

Work harder and work smarter!
