Senate Health Care Bill Less Popular Than Stalin

Fri Dec 18, 2009 at 15:28:17 PM CST

Democracy for America and the Progressive Change Campaign Committee just released a Research 2000 poll showing that the insurance industry giveaway health insurance reform bill now being considered by the Senate has less support among American voters than Stalin has among Russians - and he was responsible for the deaths of about 20 million people!Health Insurance reform pig

Joe Lieberman's giveaway to Connecticut insurance companies health care bill gets 33% support.

Stalin has a 37% favorability rating.

However... add the public option back to the bill and support for is soars to 59%.

My favorite question:

President Obama has said he favors a public health insurance option. Senator Joe Lieberman is widely credited with forcing Senate Democrats to take the public option off the table in order to win his vote. Do you think President Obama should have done more to pressure Lieberman to allow the public option to move forward?
  YES NO NOT SURE
ALL 63% 29% 8%
Men 59% 34% 7%
Women 67% 24% 9%
Democrats 87% 10% 3%
Republicans 13% 76% 11%
Independents 72% 18% 10%

Look at those numbers for the coveted "Independent" vote!

In 2006, Karl Rove confidently predicted a Republican sweep - in defiance of poll numbers - calling his calculations "THE math."  What kind of math is Harry Reid using?  Not to mention the Democratic leadership and President Obama....

They're getting ready to pass a bill that barely a third of Americans support when they could instead pass real reform with a public option supported by 59%.

Hey, I wasn't a math major, but even I can see which is the better deal - both for the Democrats and for the country.

Why can't our "leaders?"

Call Congress: 866-338-1015.  Call early.  Call often.

RECONCILIATION.  NOW.

Who Comes Up WIth This Stuff? (4.00 / 2)

They won't give those without insurance a government-managed system to choose from, but they will give people money to give to the insurance companies, from whom they would be mandated to buy insurance?

Nice.

Money may be the Mother's milk of politics, but it is the arsenic of Democracy.

Or should I say, criminally insane?

swaying lieberman (4.00 / 1)
We've talked some about how LBJ would have handled getting senate democrats (and republicans) lined up on a history making vote. he was a dealer -- historians need to tell us what republican leader everett dirksen got (maybe they have already) from LBJ to support major civil rights bills. but he as a guy who also believed that "sometimes to win someone's heart and mind you got to squeeze his balls." that was a different age but maybe an adaptation of that tactic was what obama needed in dealing with lieberman. female senate democrat blanche lincoln who was or is doing a mini-lieberman? i'm sure lbj would have figured something out

I agree (4.00 / 2)
My reading of LBJ's history is that he would have squeezed hard. In fact, I don't think Lieberman would have tried his little turnabout with Johnson. If he did , he would have been busted down to Chair of the Senate Toilet-Scrubbing Committee and could forget any notions of re-election; the same for Lincoln and Nelson.

What's that you say? (0.00 / 0)

The Senate version of the health care bill is less popular than Stalin?  You mean the same senate version Artur Davis said he supported

Representative Artur Davis of Alabama, who is running for governor there, said he preferred the Senate Finance Committee health bill and would vote against the House version.

“Because we risk disaster if we get this wrong, I will vote no on the health legislation and continue to root for a final bill that fixes the holes in our health care system and contains soaring costs in both the private and public sectors” he said in a statement.

I'm shocked and awed!

Not.

The work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives and the dreams shall never die.~Senator Edward M. Kennedy (D. MA)

It should be noted ... (0.00 / 0)
That the Senate Finance Cmte bill is not the same as the one first put before the full Senate OR the latest compromise. I can't begin to lay out all the changes but they've been considerable. These bills change at virtually every step in the process.

Work harder and work smarter!
