Via email from Aaron Myers at the DNCC: Congratulations. The Democratic Convention staff has completed its review of blog credential applications and I’m writing to let you know that your blog will be credentialed at the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver.
We made the credential list! As it happens, Countrycat was going to Denver come Hell or high water, determined to blog the Convention from outside the Pepsi Center if the DNCC wouldn't let us in. Now she won't have to (figuratively) pound on the doors of the Democratic Convention. This is an opportunity for us to build some new relationships with Alabama Democrats and with bloggers and activists from around the country. Hopefully, we'll be able to bring the excitement for the nominee back home and translate it into more votes up and down the ticket this fall. First things first, I want to thank everyone who posts and comments here, especially the front pagers, past and present. Julie, jonwil, normboyd40, herding old cats, countrycat, Redeye, quaoar, Lindy, Trent Thompson, Melissa and Kathy -- y'all are the greatest! And a big thanks to our readers, who are more numerous every day -- please send your friends so we can keep growing. I know the great folks at the Alabama Democratic party put in a good word for us with the DNCC and I'm extremely grateful for that and for our good relationship with them. Believe me, the blog/party relationship is a bit rocky in some other states. We had incredible support from our fellow bloggers after the State Blog Corps credentials were awarded. 28 bloggers representing 18 credentialed blogs signed this letter to Howard Dean asking for a review of the selection process. Mind you, these folks already had their credentials -- they didn't have to stick their necks out for the rest of us, but they did it. Markos personally posted on this subject, more than once, as did Matt Stoller at Open Left. Pam Spaulding of Pam's House Blend, Jason Rosenbaum, Marc Ambinder, Kenneth Quinnell, Joe Bodell, Miss Laura and a lot of other bloggers did the same. Talk about solidarity in the blogosphere! It's a good feeling to know so many folks have your back -- kind of like being in a union, I guess. The blog credential controversy even made the Washington Post and the Rocky Mountain News and Sarah Lai Stirland just put up a good article at Wired. Details of who and how many LiA bloggers will be making the trip to Denver will emerge in the near future, as the DNCC sends additional details and folks re-examine their travel arrangements. Y'all be thinking about what kind of Convention coverage you want -- interviews, video, great photos, interesting connections? Post your suggestions in the comments here or use any open thread if something strikes you later. Congratulations to all the hard working blogs that received credentials. The complete list is below the fold. I'm very happy to see Cotton Mouth, Blue Jersey, The Albany Project and Michigan Liberal included, to round out the state blogs. African American Political Pundit, Jack and Jill Politics and Pam's House Blend also made it -- in fact, a lot of our blogroll will be there. It's an impressive list, but some deserving blogs and good blogfriends aren't on it -- there's never room for everyone, more's the pity. |
