Don Siegelman Doesn't Buy Rove "Denial"

From Sam Stein at the Huffington Post:

"Karl Rove saying he's had nothing to do with firing U.S. Attorneys and nothing to do with my case is like President Bush saying he's had nothing to do with the war in Iraq because he hasn't pulled a trigger," said Siegelman.

...

"I think Rove is probably the most devious and evil political operative who has been trained to come on to the political scene in certainly the last fifty years," he said. "I can't think of anybody in the annals of history who could even rival this man's pernicious thoughts. It is a lifetime's work for him... I think he learned two things from Watergate: you don't need to establish a secret plumbers union at a mid level office in the White House when you can take over Department of Justice and have them do your dirty work for you, and secondly, you don't leave tapes behind, you destroy evidence."

Don Siegelman has had a lot of time to think about the way Rovian/Nixonian politics work.  He gets it.

There's more interesting reading at that link, including Siegelman's thoughts on Rove's relationship to John McCain's presidential campaign.

Speaking of Rove (4.00 / 2)

Check out Recounting Recount by Digby.

It’s pretty to think that this is all ancient history and we can move on. Maybe we can. But just this week, Tim Griffin was hired to run the RNCs Obama opposition research team. And the voter fraud apparatus that Rove and others before him have built, which includes Republican lawyers like Carvin and Griffin, is still up and running. Maybe they are spent and useless now. I hope so.

Oh no! (4.00 / 1)

I don't think the voter fraud apparatus built by Rove is spent and useless now.  Don't count them out.

If each of one of us registers one new voter this year and "adopts" that person, keeping them informed about candidates, issues and the election, 2008 will be a landslide victory for progressives -- despite the efforts of the Rove machine.  We need huge numbers to overwhelm them.  No more close victories that can be overturned.

Work harder and work smarter!

I think the Rovian voter fraud apparatus (4.00 / 1)

Includes GOP voters registered both at home and at thier vacation home addresses in Florida (where they can vote early).  That would be practical for a lot of Goopers in the Southeast U.S.

This needs to be brought up early and often.  Make them prove it wrong!!

Scotty McCellan has thrown Bush under the bus!

The rats are leaving the sinking ship (0.00 / 0)
I noticed that McClellan is still defending Bush -- said he was betrayed by his top advisors.  Bush may be dumber than a bag of rocks, but he still bears significant responsibility for this mess.  Scottie, too!

Work harder and work smarter!

Agreed. (4.00 / 1)
I think McClellan has a conscience although working for Bush he had to anesthetize it.  Plus, his bosses played him for a fool.

Played him because it was easy... (4.00 / 1)

McClellan pondering Bush's cocaine habit:

"How can someone simply not remember whether or not they used an illegal substance like cocaine? It didn't make a lot of sense."

Bush, according to McClellan, "isn't the kind of person to flat-out lie."

An indictment of our media (4.00 / 1)

Bush played the media and the media played we the people.  Helen Thomas was the canary in the mine but no one would listen to her.  Phil Donahue was another canary. MSNBC  canceled his show because anti war voices were being heard and replaced it with Michael Savage of all people.  The Dixie Chicks were boycotted. The anti war protestors were either ignored or called traitors or they were accused of "not supporting the troops".  Cindy Sheehan was vilified.   Dissent was suppressed.

Tears and Jeers (4.00 / 1)

From Daily Kos

Once again, we come face to face with a White House official who could've done the right thing...but instead decided that the lives of American troops, Iraqi civilians, Katrina victims, and a network of covert CIA operatives were worth less than the luster of his master's lapel pin. When our country needed him to tell it straight, he hid behind propaganda and spin and bogus talking points and outright bamboozlement.

We need to be screamng "Vote Suppression" at the top of our lungs (4.00 / 1)

All the way through November.

We can scream all we want (4.00 / 1)
But the media will either drown us out or not  let our screams be heard.
