Aderholt On Torture

This is the kind of "rendition" Robert Aderholt voted to support.

American Inquisition

The man that is supposed to be representing the issues and ideas of the people of Alabama voted against overriding the insane Bush veto of The Intelligence Authorization Act of 2008 H.R. 2082.  This bill would ban interrogation methods like waterboarding and mock executions once and for all.

The photo above is of a suspected insurgent named Manadel al-Jamadi, wrapped in ice. An autopsy revealed he died of "blunt force injuries" and "compromised respiration," (think waterboard) presumably at the hands of a CIA interrogator.  Who was the terrorist here?  By giving it a stamp of approval Aderholt is just as guilty as the CIA "renditionist".

I wonder what "important" information was gained for the security of America by killing this man.  Do the ideas of the Constitution and innocent until proven guilty mean nothing anymore?  I know this wasn't an American but aren't those ideas and principles the ones we are supposed to be trying to spread?  I always believed that the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness was universal not a singularly American privilege.

You mean the same Aderholt (4.00 / 1)
that voted against the mental health bill?

The work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives and the dreams shall never die.~Senator Edward M. Kennedy (D. MA)

Security Agencies (4.00 / 1)

themselves, for the most part, say that intelligence gained from torture is not reliable. What's especially chilling about the whole issue is that they have to be contemplating the use of these methods in a wholesale fashion, or they wouldn't be so keen to have legislation pushed through that grants them immunity.

Emergency situations (like, say, a kidnapped child) have sometimes resulted in law enforcement using methods that aren't exactly out of the play book to get critical information.

I don't recall anyone being prosecuted in a case like this. SO how many people are they looking at here?

Aderholt (and Bonner, and Bush, and Cheney and MCCAIN) onTorture (0.00 / 0)

It has become increasingly obvious that George W. Bush's legacy - his chief contribution to the history he so often refers to but obviously never read -is to show the dictators of the world how to do it right.  When Musharraf, Putin, and the rest look to the White House to see how far they may go in repressing their opponents, a new low has clearly been reached in Washinton.  When the Burmese leaders whom Bush so freely castigates for their cruelty have not sunk as far into the mire of inhumanity as has our own CIA - with approval from Bush and ALL his hand puppets - it's a sad day in the land of the free.

How far off the mark was Hugo Chavez when he called Bush "Satan"?  Now, we all know Bush is not Satan, but how evil an entity must he be to have Satan as his vice president?

I have a thought.  I don't want to upset the clean water activists- indeed I am one,  but maybe we should start a campaign to symbolically demonstrate the true nature of our present administration, by dumping some innocuous, biodegradable red dye into the Potomac, upstream, so that it would flow through DC as red as the blood Bush and his minions are so intent on shedding all over this precious planet. We would probably only get away with it once, but just imagine the headlines!

and perhaps we could arrange some locusts and frogs to coincide with the dye release?

I'd love to see Cheney standing on the ank with a serpent staff

He is not a fan of the 14th Amendment (4.00 / 1)

H.R.1940
Title: To amend section 301 of the Immigration and Nationality Act to clarify those classes of individuals born in the United States who are nationals and citizens of the United States at birth.

Aderholt co-sponsored this crap along with Bachus, Bonner, Everett, and Rodgers.  Scary brown people will take us over if we grant citizenship to children.

Voting for the lesser of two evils is still better than voting for the most evil.
