Jeff Sessions Kills Sportsman's Act Because ... Grover!

Jeff SessionsJeff Sessions still ♥ Grover Norquist --  hunters, fishermen and other outdoorsmen, not so much.

Even as his GOP colleagues are declaring their independence from Grover Norquist and his no new revenues ever, no matter what pledge ...

"I will violate the pledge, long story short, for the good of the country," U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said during an appearance Sunday on Fox News."I care more about my country than I do about a 20-year-old pledge," U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., told a Georgia television station last week.

... Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions is still pledging allegiance to St. Grover instead of Old Glory or the US Constitution.

"I signed it, and I absolutely believe we don’t have to raise taxes now," Sessions said during an appearance today on Fox News.

The latest casualty of Sessions' worship at Norquist's no new revenue, ever altar is the bipartisan Sportsmen's Heritage Act introduced by Montana Sen. Jon Tester (D).  Tester's bill was a collection of bills from both Republicans and Democrats and would have allowed more hunting (especially bowhunting) and fishing on federal land.

At its root, though, the Sportsmen's Act is about improving habitat and increasing access for hunters and fishermen on public land by reauthorizing the Federal Lands Transaction Facilitation Act and requiring that 1.5 percent from the annual Land and Water Conservation Fund is set aside specifically to secure easements and purchase in-holdings on existing public lands with access-restricted acreage.

Sessions raised a budget-related point of order to kill the bill because it "contained Democratic language" and would have appropriated $14 million in new money.

The Sportsmen's Act combined more than a dozen bipartisan bills aimed at expanding access to federal land for hunters and fishermen. Sessions, ranking member of the Senate Budget Committee, said he supports most of the Sportsmen’s bill, but said it contains Democratic language that appropriates new money, and urged his colleagues not to support it for that reason.

Sessions actually cited Democratic language as a reason to kill legislation supported by hunters, fishermen, conservationists and even the NRA.  Yes, Alabama, bipartisanship is truly dead.  Jeff Sessions killed it.

funny... (4.00 / 3)

I don't remember voting for Grover Norquist - or Sessions either, but at least he was on the ballot.

off topic but (4.00 / 3)

can't help it. LOL

I hesitate to post this, as it may give some of those geniuses in Montgomery ideas, but I really think Jeff should move to Kentucky and run there. It's his kind of state.

Don't you think (4.00 / 2)

Kentucky's got it bad enough already?  I mean, they've already got to deal with Rand Paul and Mitch McConnell.  Why would you want to increase the horror Kentuckians have to live with?

Besides, don't you think that our own GOP Goobers and Gomers have already thought about doing just that?  And you just know that Moore's going to pull another "rock" stunt within months (if not weeks) of being sworn into office.  And I don't trust any of the GOP Goobers and Gomers also on the Court or in the Legislature to put a stop to it before he further embarasses the State; in fact, it wouldn't surprise me if the GOP Stupormajority* in the Legislature passes a resolution supporting Moore.

*I was going to write "Stupidmajority" but figured "Stupormajority" works just as well, if not better simply for the rhyme.

Kentucky, Alabama ... not much difference (0.00 / 0)
Our GOP goobers are about as bad as theirs.  And our Stupormajority (love that term, btw) can give stupid points to any state legislature in the country.

Work harder and work smarter!

Take My $2,000.00 (4.00 / 1)

I'll personally deliver two, $1,000 bills to Jeff Sessions today if he can give a good reason why it should come from me, rather than those that make $250,000.00 or more per year. And "Because I was stupid enough to make an ignorant pledge to 'Grubby' Grover Norquist" is NOT a good reason.

Oh but NOW, ole Beau says we don't have to raise taxes. If that's the case, then he needs to explain how to pay for two wars. How to pay for whatever will have to be done with The Egyptian version of Hitler. How to pay for a minimum of twenty years of extreme weather damage. (it takes Co2 twenty years to dissipate) How to pay for a speedy transition to alt energy to keep the twenty years of extreme weather from becoming fifty and beyond. Plus Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security...

Er, ah . . . (0.00 / 0)

I think $1,000 bills are no longer in circulation.  You'll have to bring him a briefcase full of $100 bills.

Which, of course, he will gladly accept.
