Richard Shelby's New Pork Palace In Mobile Joins A Number Of Alabama Shelby Memorials

Yesterday, the University of South Alabama (USA) celebrated its 50th anniversary and held a formal dedication ceremony for "Shelby Hall," the new engineering & computer science building.  The building is named after the Big Dick himself - Senator Richard Shelby - who can claim lots of credit for the building:

Shelby was instrumental in securing more than $40 million in federal funding for the 155,000-square-foot building.

Another "Shelby Hall?" The costs are starting to add up...

This is getting pretty darn Egyptian if you ask me...  If we don't hurry up and get this guy out of office, the entire state landscape will be dotted taxpayer-financed memorials to Senator Shelby (and his lovely wife):  Shelby Halls, Shelby Centers, trams, Shelby labs, luxury condos built in Tuscaloosa with Hurricane Katrina aid money - everything but a Shelby hog processing facility.

All paid for with federal pork.

Is this the same guy who said this just a few shorts months ago at the Shoals Chamber of Commerce?

“We spend too much, save too little and borrow too much."

Unless we're spending it, well, you know... like in Alabama where Shelby gets to hand out the checks like he's donating his own personal funds.

Also, (4.00 / 1)
We have more than enough memorials to George Corley Wallace and his kinfolk.

not that I begrudge any university (4.00 / 2)

funding for a new building or an enhanced program.

But the hipocracy of Shelby making a rude gesture to the federal govt with one hand while pocketing wads of federal cash for Alabama with the other just turns my stomach.

Hmm, I hadn't thought of it that way.  Maybe "Ramses" is Egyptian for "Shelby".  Where's that damn Indiana Jones when you need him!?

I hope there won't be some kind of Curse associated with all Shelby's pre-deceased mausoleums.

Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passion, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence.

Man, I couldn't quit laughing.
