Yesterday, the University of South Alabama (USA) celebrated its 50th anniversary and held a formal dedication ceremony for "Shelby Hall," the new engineering & computer science building. The building is named after the Big Dick himself - Senator Richard Shelby - who can claim lots of credit for the building:
Shelby was instrumental in securing more than $40 million in federal funding for the 155,000-square-foot building.
Another "Shelby Hall?" The costs are starting to add up...
$40 million in federal aid: The new Shelby Hall on the USA campus.
$27.5 million in federal aid: There's a Shelby building at UAB called the Shelby Biomedical Research Building. Like all the others listed here, this one also bears Annette Shelby's name.
$50 million in federal aid. The Shelby Center at UAH is, sadly, most famous for the shootings that took place there a few years ago.
This is getting pretty darn Egyptian if you ask me... If we don't hurry up and get this guy out of office, the entire state landscape will be dotted taxpayer-financed memorials to Senator Shelby (and his lovely wife): Shelby Halls, Shelby Centers, trams, Shelby labs, luxury condos built in Tuscaloosa with Hurricane Katrina aid money - everything but a Shelby hog processing facility.
All paid for with federal pork.
Is this the same guy who said this just a few shorts months ago at the Shoals Chamber of Commerce?

Unless we're spending it, well, you know... like in Alabama where Shelby gets to hand out the checks like he's donating his own personal funds.
