This one is easy to check at gaspricewatch.com -- see the chart below -- and I'm shocked the journalists covering Mitt's visit didn't take the time to do so.
Contrary to what Romney said, gas prices today aren't much different than they were in August of 2008. As a matter of fact, gas prices today are actually lower than they were in June of 2008. BUT ... because of extremely low gas prices in January 2009 (lower then that at any point since 2003) it would have been strictly correct, though misleading, if Romney had claimed that gas prices have doubled since the day Obama took office. Of course, that isn't what Romney claimed.
If Mitt's lips are moving, he's probably lying -- thankfully he isn't a skilled liar.
Better check the rest of Mitt's claims, too. I'm pretty sure the one about how Rosa Parks sparked the civil rights movement all on her own is bogus (she had a lot of help and support) and it's ridiculous to ignore the 9.5 million members of Solidarity (1/3 of the working age population of Poland) who stood with Lech Walesa and claim that he did it on his own.
