"We have two rogue members of the delegation who, unfortunately, people think are speaking on behalf of the entire delegation. We all get lumped together," Todd said. "That's absolutely not true. I am in support of the state's intervention. In fact, I think it should have happened a long time ago."
The Committee objected to Todd's use of "rogue," although it is quite clear that she isn't calling them rogues (noun), she's pointing out their statements are outside the norm for the Birmingham delegation. That certainly doesn't "impugn their character" and it definitely isn't a racial slur of any sort. Todd's colleagues who where present when the remark was passed don't see it as a big deal, either.
What is the Committee's game, here? Trying to stir up trouble for Pat Todd, maybe? Create an opening for a challenger of their own?
Todd had to take her fight for the Democratic nomination all the way to the State Democratic Executive Committee in 2006, but had no Democratic opposition in 2010. I wouldn't bet on that happening again in 2014. We can only hope her challengers leave Todd's race (she is white) out of the argument next time, and spare Alabama a repeat of the sorry spectacle we witnessed in 2006.
