Between threatening to impeach Chief Justice John Roberts and having conniptions because their 25 year old kids still have health insurance, conservatives are consoling themselves with the notion that Mitt Romney will repeal ObamaCare just as soon as he is elected president. AL-GOP Chairman Shady Armistead expressed the "Mitt Will Save Us" sentiment on Thursday:
"Governor Romney has made it clear that the primary objective on his first day as President will be to fully repeal this tax and start over. The stakes have never been higher for a general election. It is now up to the American people to ensure the repeal of this tax by electing Mitt Romney as our next President on November 6th."
Are conservatives that gullible? Sure, Romney said he'd do that, but Mitt says a lot of things. Even aside from the little fact that the Constitution doesn't allow presidents to repeal laws all by themselves, is there any evidence Romney really opposes ObamaCare ... which, after all, used to be called RomneyCare? No. This is just the latest example of Mitt Romney saying any damned thing to get votes.
Here's Mitt Romney in 2007, explaining how great the Massachusetts health care system works and how conservative RomneyCare is.
"That [the Massachusetts plan] in my opinion is the ultimate conservatism. That's why the Heritage Foundation worked with us and was at the celebration of the signing. ... I'm proud to talk about what we did."
"Therefore the right way to proceed is to reform health care. That we can do as we did it in Massachusetts ... we can do it for the nation, we can get everybody insured. We can get the cost of health care down."
OK conservatives, so you're gullible enough to believe Mitt Romney's "repeal and replace" schtick, and also that he can wave a magic wand and repeal ObamaCare on his first day. Guess what Mitt would replace it with?
I'll give you a hint. It's called RomneyCare ... and it looks just like ObamaCare.
