Mo Brooks (R, AL-05) to a Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce crowd that the growing deficit is "the greatest threat our nation faces."
Worse than Al-Quaeda, worse than nuclear arms, worse than natural disasters, worse than the rising cost of oil-based energy, worse than Iran or North Korea ... Brooks says the deficit is THE greatest threat facing our nation. That's strong language.
Did Brooks then call for immediately slashing defense spending, which accounts for a huge chunk of the budget, a chunk which has been growing at a rapid pace?
No, he did not. Quite the opposite.
Brooks also discussed sequestration, automatic across-the-board cuts to the Department of Defense and other federal agencies beginning in 2013.
"It's so dramatic, it must be stopped," said Brooks, who serves on the Armed Services and Science, Space and Technology committees.
So Brooks says the deficit is the greatest threat to our nation, then turns around and says automatic spending cuts to reduce the deficit "must be stopped."
Mo Brooks is either a pandering hypocrite or he's giving aid and assistance to "the greatest threat our nation faces."
