Spending Cuts: Mitt Romney Has A Truth Attack

Mitt Romney Steve Pearce event 056If conservatives "couldn't warm to" Mitt Romney before, they must be ice cold after hearing his comment on deficit spending:

"If you just cut, if all you're thinking about doing is cutting spending, as you cut spending you'll slow down the economy ..."

Yes!  Cutting spending, is bad for the economy, especially during a recession.  This is what Barack Obama has been trying to tell Congress for 3 years but all Republicans want to do is cut, cut, cut.  Deep down, Mitt knows conservative economic policies are a load of crap.  Unfortunately for him, the truth slipped out just as the GOP primary was heating up ...

A few educated Republicans will admit the economic truths (4.00 / 2)

Others tend to wash over the truths because they are in it for the short term profit. Others don't have a freaking clue, or they expect Jesus to save us.

There is a fine example of what happens when you cut spending to the bone playing out in Greece. Greece will tank. I have no doubt about it. Their economy will shrink to a dribble.

Now the question to ponder, how does Mo Brooks, with his degree in economics, able to support huge tax and spending cuts while saying it will boost the economy? Oh, wait, I explained that in paragraph 1.

Gardener: One who interfers with natural selection one seed at a time

Yeah, Mo "the deficit is our greatest threat" Brooks is a classic example (0.00 / 0)
His district's economy is entirely based on federal spending, but he went to Washington to cut the budget.  Hard to square his rhetoric with reality.

Is Mo's degree in economics, or in economic theology? (4.00 / 1)
And is there a lot of difference, anyhow?

Short term only (0.00 / 0)
Longer term, lower government spending is healthy for the economy.  The less you remove from private hands, the less we borrow to finance government spending, the more money ordinary people and businesses get to keep and spend for themselves.  And that's good for the economy.  As a matter of fact, that's what an economy IS... people earning and spending money.

Increased government spending during a recession is good for the economy (0.00 / 0)

It's a way to help the private sector get back on its feet.  The 2009 stimulus should have been larger -- folks on the right were wrong, wrong, wrong about that -- or there should have been a second stimulus in 2010.

I like a balanced budget as much as anyone, but the middle of the worst recession since the 1930's is not the time to insist on one.

Work harder and work smarter!
