Parker Griffith is an idiot. Please vote for him.

(Tempting ... - promoted by mooncat)

Parker Griffith is an idiot. Please vote for him.

Here’s the thing: Parker Griffith is a benign idiot, and Mo Brooks is a dangerous idiot. Parker Griffith in Congress is a much less hideous prospect than more Mo. Griffith is a devil we already know and he used to be a Democrat, and many Republicans (including officials of the party) regard him as a liberal.

Want to get rid of Mo Brooks? You can do it in the primary: Cast your vote for Parker Griffith. This is probably the only chance to dispose of Mo, because in the general he would almost surely defeat Mr. Holley. However Mr. Holley would have a fighting chance against Griffith.

In an unprecedented shift many local candidates have switched to the Republican party. The politicians have seen the writing on the wall and they have switched parties. There are no more conservative Democrats in the South. They are all now Republicans. The only hope a citizen has of having an impact in an election is by voting in the Republican primary.

A quick refresher on how the primary works in Alabama. You are required to choose one political party's ballot over the other because you cannot participate in the nomination of both parties' candidates. But anyone can vote in the Republican primary: Democrat, independent, Tea Party, Occupier, anyone. With no contested races on the Democrat primary, there is no reason to vote in that primary. There is, however, a real chance to stop Mo Brooks by using your vote against him in the Republican primary. If Griffith were to win the primary, then you could vote against him in the general election, and give Charlie Holley a chance of winning. If the presidential primary is still contested on March 13 you could also vote for Newt Gingrich, thus giving President Obama an easier contest in November. And by the way, I would like to see the Prez and Newt debate. I believe the Prez would shred the Newt.

Tuesday, March 13 marks your best chance to oust Mo Brooks from Congress. And yes - we all agree - Parker Griffith is an idiot. Please vote for him.

Both Mo and Griffith are conservative (4.00 / 1)
But Mo Brooks is more extreme.  He's also even less effective than Griffith as a congressman.  I didn't think it was possible to top Griffith's behavior in Congress, then Mo went to Washington and almost immediately got himself censured for making incendiary accusations on the House floor.  He was more interested in currying favor with the extremists in his party to insure re-election than in building relationships to benefit the Tennessee Valley.

Work harder and work smarter!

Sorry. SO not taking a ride on on that bandwagon (4.00 / 1)

In Madison County, there are incumbent Democrats running for re-election, but no contested primary races.  That makes it tempting for Democrats to go play with the GOP.

But there are Democrats on the ballot & they're running as delegates to the convention.  Good, committed Democrats - many of your friends I've no doubt - who won't get the votes of the people who know them the best.  Full disclosure: I'm one of them!  :-)

So if guilt doesn't work for you, how about this?

When you go to the GOP primary to vote for the least crazy candidate, what happens?  You strengthen the GOP's appeal to moderate and independent voters.  How many Democrats crossed over in the runoff to vote for Bob Riley instead of Roy Moore for governor?

I know this Parker Griffith thing is different, but it's still a bad idea and the large number of local Democrats jumping on board really annoys me.  Are you planning to ONLY vote for Griffith or will you vote in all the other contested races as well?

And if you do, will you be voting for "the crazy" or for the most moderate candidates?

If you vote for the moderates (or what passes for moderate in the Alabama GOP), you're doing your part to strengthen the ALGOP and marginalize the ADP.

Lecture over!  :-)

Can't do it. (4.00 / 2)
I wouldn't vote for Parker if I did. Mo may be a nut, but Parker is a liar.

Charles Holley can beat Mo Brooks (4.00 / 1)
And Charles WILL beat Mo Brooks! There's no need for us Democrats to stain our soul by signing the GOP book at the polls on March 13th. Mo Brooks will be a one-term congressman.

The 2011 surface temperatures (World Temperature) was 0.51°C (0.92°F) above the 20th century average. This marks the 35th consecutive year, since 1976, that the yearly global temperature was above average. - N.O.A.A.

It aint good to pretend to be bad for one day (4.00 / 1)
That's all I got to say. It's enough.

Qui bibit, dormit; qui dormit, non peccat; qui non peccat, sanctus est; ergo qui bibit sanctus est.

parker vs mo (0.00 / 0)

my first election was voting for truman in '48 and i have never voted in a republican primary or voted for a republican in a general election. i've passed on a few democrats but never voted for the republican. my intention now is to vote for parker with the hope that a significant number of other democrats and independents do, as a signal to him that his ideas on how to be our congressman are very repulsive to us. if parker beats mo i hope he will have learned from the experience of the past 4 years and be a better congressman. i will vote for holley in november have no hope or expectation that holley stands a chance. what's his theme - a "servant" congressman? i think i read that he believes the founding fathers considered themselves "servants." he needs to read biographies of some of the major founders -- hamilton, who got the constitution ratified, would be a good place to start. "servant" was not in his mentality.

Regarding the other contested spots i'm tempted on the county commission race in my district. no democrat is running.
