A Holiday Gift From Alabama Democrats ...

Alabama DemocratsAlabama Democrats plan to field a candidate in every GOP-held congressional district:

Only two Democrats have said they plan to run against Alabama's six Republican members of Congress so far, but party leaders said they expect to have challengers in all six races by the time candidate qualifying ends Jan. 13.

...

"We've got a few weeks still, but we plan to have people in all those districts," said Bradley Davidson, executive director of the Alabama Democratic Party.

Hallelujah! Support AL Democrats, now.

No more free passes.

No more BS about not wanting to "stir up Republicans."

No more discouraging Democrats from running.

No more failure to offer a choice to voters.

As Howard Dean said:

We will only win when we show up and fight for the issues important to all of us. ... We can win elections only by standing up for what we believe.

Dean intoduced the very successful 50 State Strategy as DNC Chairman.  Let's have a 67 County Strategy here in Alabama!

Democratic candidates announced to date:

Rhonda Gore Dennis ----- AL-04

Charlie Holley ---- AL-05

I can't wait to see who else will be running for Congress (4.00 / 1)
Bradley Davidson mentioned that there will be a candidate in AL-03 to challenge know/do-nothing Mike Rogers (R).  Greg Varner, maybe?  I'd pay to see that matchup.

Work harder and work smarter!

Amen! (4.00 / 2)

I was imagining this race just yesterday.  I'm hardly a wealthy man but I'd try to max out for Greg and I'd work every hour available.

I'm hoping they'll be doing that locally. (4.00 / 2)
We need contenders for the state house-- not just the one in D.C.

Let's hold off on the plaudits... (4.00 / 2)
until they actually field these candidates.

Reward the behavior you want to see more of (4.00 / 1)
I like that Bradley Davidson publicly announced an intention to compete in all 6 GOP districts.  And I really like that so far there's no indication AL Democrats have pressured any Democrats to NOT RUN in any of these districts.  That has happened in the past, and it's shameful.

Work harder and work smarter!

Yes, indeed. Joe Turnham was not overly friendly to (4.00 / 1)
candidates he didn't hand-pick.

I'll believe it when I see it (4.00 / 2)
When I see at least one viable Democrat run in the 6th District then I'll believe it.

It would be foolish not to field a candidate against Bachus (4.00 / 1)

He has plenty of Wall Street related baggage -- this insider trading mess is a perfect example -- and you never know what new scandal may erupt.  But if Democrats don't have a candidate in place, it won't matter how much egg is on Spencer Bachus' face.

Good to hear from you again, btw!

Work harder and work smarter!

hear, hear... welcome back! (0.00 / 0)
I think a good candidate for AL-06 is critical. Particularly if there's a nasty primary battle between beason & bachus.

There are no "safe" Republican districts. You can run but you can't hide.  - Rahm Emmanuel

be realistic folks (0.00 / 0)
it's really up to the county democratic committees in each district to find the best congressional candidates. of course the state committee works at it too. here in north alabama,  anyone who thinks a no legislative experience, no background in politics, candidate charlie holley is going to get support and money and organization just because he says i'm the candidate, is kidding himself and herself. we need someone with at least a little stature, someone with experience he or she can point to, someone with an ability to organize in the shoals and in the hills of jackson county, as well as in huntsville.
