Tom Radney

Former State Senator Tom Radney passed away over the weekend.  He was a longtime member of the State Democratic Executive Committee (SDEC) and author of the Radney Rule which allows a challenge to qualification of a potential Democrat candidate if that potential candidate failed to support Democratic candidates in the previous general election.  The Radney Rule was used to challenge the candidacy of Charley Grimsley last year.  Tom Radney was present at the committee meeting when that challenge was decided.

ADP Chairman Mark Kennedy issued this statement on Radney's passing:

“The news this morning that Tom Radney passed away marked a great loss for the Alabama Democratic Party.  Tom served for many years as a member of our state executive committee, as a state senator, as our nominee for Lieutenant Governor, and as a mentor and supporter to scores of candidates and officeholders.  ‘Big Tom,’ as his grandchildren called him, was indeed a big presence in the Alabama Democratic Party and he will be greatly missed.  Many a Democrat took heart over the years knowing that a trip or a phone call to Alexander City would result in Tom lending some helpful advice or a word of encouragement.  The thoughts and prayers of the Alabama Democratic Party are with Tom's family and the people of Alexander City during this difficult time.”

Arrangements (4.00 / 1)
I posted the arrangements here for anyone that is interested.  A really sad weekend.

Thanks. (0.00 / 0)

Sad ... reminds me of what my Aunt Mattie used to say about dying:

We've all got it to do.

And of course, the timing is mostly out of our control.  I didn't know him personally, but it sounds like Tom Radney lived his life well.

Work harder and work smarter!
