Rep. Mo Brooks is NOT having a Town Hall Meeting Today

by: mooncat

Tue Apr 19, 2011 at 09:13:11 AM CDT

Instead, Mo Brooks (R, AL-05) is holding an open office in Ardmore, TN to meet with constituents "one-on-one" by appointment.

No crowds, no cameras, no questions about those promises from last year.

Update: No, that is not a typo above.  Alabama Congressman Brooks is holding his by appointment constituent availability in the neighboring state of Tennessee.

Huh? (4.00 / 1)
Is the location actually in Tennessee or in Alabama?

Apparently in TN (0.00 / 0)

Ardmore is one of those towns that straddles the state line so there is both Ardmore, AL and Ardmore, TN.  However, the location is listed as ...

Ardmore, TN Annex Building
26349 Main St.
Ardmore, TN 38449

... which seems to indicate Brooks will be holding his one-on-one, by appointment meetings outside the state of Alabama.

Given the radical nature of the Tea Party they rode in on, I'm surprised more GOP Congresspeople aren't holding by-appointment constituent availabilities outside their districts or even their states.

Work harder and work smarter!

Tennessee/Alabama (4.00 / 1)

I'm wondering if the same post office serves both sides of the border but is actually in Tennessee.

If not, the taxpayers seem to be subsidizing--or something--a non-meeting outside his voting district.

Outside the box (4.00 / 1)
I went to Mapquest to find the actual location.  It's about 500 feet NORTH of the state line.  In other words--the meeting is actually in Tennessee!

Put that address into Mapquest or Google Maps (0.00 / 0)
It shows up as north of the state line, in Tennessee.

So the Tea Party is now: Tea for Two (4.00 / 1)
His promises from last year were to carry out a reckless agenda so if he's shelving that, I consider it a sign of progress. Who knows? Maybe bought a cup of coffee and woke up.

True. (0.00 / 0)
And he's afraid of the tar and feather crowd that put him in office.

Work harder and work smarter!

You know... (4.00 / 1)

I didn't think Huntsville could do worse than Parker Griffith.  I mean sure Mo Brooks is completely wrong for that district considering the amount of federal funding that is Huntsville's bread and butter, but at least you know what to expect somewhat.  At least that's what I thought. Is there something in the air up there that makes politicians lose their minds and do the exact opposite of what they ran on the second they hit D.C.?

Say what you will about Parker Griffith, but Parker Griffith at least met with his constituents before he stabbed them in the back.

He actually met with his constituents after he stabbed us in the back, too (0.00 / 0)

He held an open house right after his Lilly Ledbetter vote and he held a number of public meetings even after he switched parties.  I don't recall notices for any appointment only availabilities.

And of course, the previous Congressman with the big TVA presence in his district -- all of them! -- never griped about socialists on the floor of the House.

Work harder and work smarter!

Y'all watch yourselves. (4.00 / 2)

With Parker's ego, he'll run again with this campaign slogan:

"DR. Griffith.... Not as big of a dick as Mo Brooks."

That said, I really did expect Mo to be better than Parker.  Because Brooks is a likeable guy (I do like him personally, but can't stand his politics) who is - or was - totally upfront about his political craziness.  He'd answer any questions from anyone in any forum.

Maybe the consultants are already taking him over.

For your Parker Griffith campaign slogan...

According to Wikipedia (4.00 / 1)
Quoting the U.S. Census, the population of Ardmore, AL is 1106 and 96.3% are white.

Emulating FDR? (4.00 / 1)

Maybe Slo Mo is taking a page from Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who's "Summer White House" was at Campobello, in Canada.

Naw. FDR was a Democrat (and proud of it.)

unbelievable but not really (4.00 / 1)
it's the Tea Party meme and standard operating procedure at work here - be accessible but not really

smoke and mirrors.
