Rep. Alan Boothe: G-R-E-E-D, Greed in Action

Last week the Alabama Democratic Party brought us Republican Rep. Lynn Greer's rant on how "Schoolteachers need to know back home that GREED has put them under." Today the ADP directs our attention to some of that G-R-E-E-D in action, as personified by Rep. Alan Boothe (R, HD89).

Boothe voted to end the DROP program for others, but he gets to keep the $330K plus DROP payout he has amassed.

Rep. Boothe's excuse for participating in the DROP program -- which he voted to kill -- is an amazingly honest expression of pure, unadulterated, greed for which he attempts to shift the blame to his children and grandchildren:

"It would have been a disservice to my heirs not to participate ..."

Rep. Boothe is giving his heirs a bum rap. The decision to take this money (which he apparently does not actually need, since in addition to his pay as a Legislator, he still draws a paycheck from Troy University) was his alone. If Rep. Boothe is now so remorseful and concerned about the state budget perhaps he will simply sign his DROP account over to the State of Alabama to be used for the Education Trust Fund.

Yeah, I'm not holding my breath for that to happen.
