 Let's call it what it is. Some people back then didn't want to do the work so they captured slaves to do it for them.

 "Sons of the Confederacy" are really sons of couch potatoes. And it's not surprising that most of them are Republicans. (the party of lazy, anti-progressiveness)

... personally.  They hire others to do things for them, then try to get out of paying a fair wage for their employees' labor.

  I've been sitting here patiently thinking that you all are trolling me, maybe you are. SCV members  as a whole are some of the hardest working individuals you'll ever meet. Good ol boys. Work 60 hours a week and don't look for handouts from anyone. How many of you have spent your Saturdays treking back to some forgotten cemetary, cleaning the graves and seeing that grave stones are placed on these graves. There's no difference in these re enactors and people who attend Renasance Faires, Sci Fi Conventions or SCA. Surely some of you know the experience of firing black powder weapons. SCV has stood firmly by the Heritage not Hate that even the NCAAP recognize that regardless of the post that said they were just ignoring it. SCV members have an obligation to see that no one displays the battle flag in a hateful or disrespectful way. That applies specifically to hate groups, which is you should be targeting. 

  In all my years of association with them politics has never been mentioned except maybe by me and my old yellow dog ways. I was shocked after following blog link to read comments about us "liberals" 

  Yes I've maintained a stance that Jeff Davis was a traitor and should have been hung. I once thought the same of Forrest concerning the Fort Pillow.

  If you're looking for real racists I suggest you look to pagan groups who would celebrate their Nordic heritage not us good ol boys that remember our Celtic heritage

  I conclude by saying that while my Southern roots run deep and have been well nourished by the blood, sweat and tears of my ancestors, whom I chose to remember, and that after all the discussions are finished I am always first an foremost an AMERICAN !

 So do you think some NAACP members will be in attendance and rejoicing?

 All of history should be remembered but some of it is in poor taste to celebrate. 

 And I am not trolling you. I'm voicing my personal opinion about the event.

 I label the right as "lazy", due to right-wing elected officials not doing their job in Washington. (not lifting a finger to curb climate change, inspire innovation, create business to market overseas and work towards more peaceful foreign relations)

No problem with remembering the ancestors -- whatever side they fought on (0.00 / 0)

Or whether they fought at all.  I've condemned the guy who pulled Confederate flags off graves (was that last year?) and took my lumps for it.  IMO, you can put whatever you want on your ancestors' graves.  Heck, if you're into re-enactmenting battles for fun, I'll even give you that as an interesting way to spend your weekends.  Recreation, respect for your dead, fine.  But the swearing in of Jeff Davis was a political event.  Davis was a political figure.  And support for slavery and secession is intertwined with that politics.  It's not something that any of us should be proud to celebrate, which is not to say we should forget it, but we should remember it with somber reflection that Jeff Davis' politics was deservedly on the wrong side of history.

Republicans are killing two birds with one stone (4.00 / 1)

The State Republican Executive Committee is meeting in Montgomery tomorrow morning.  After that's done, it's into their Civil War outfits and on to the Confederate Parade up Dexter Avenue at noon, fire the cannons and listen to Jeff Davis' speech.  Again. 

Very convenient.

But these folks appear to be completely ignorant of his teachings, so maybe it all works out in their narrow little minds.  Reckon they've ever considered that "Christian" has the same root as "Christmas" and maybe they don't want to "take the Christ out of" either word?
