Alabama Republican on Illegal Immigration "Empty the Clip and Do What Has to Be Done."

Those are the words that closed illustrious Alabama Senator Scott Beason's recent speech on illegal immigration in Cullman.

I think that speaks for itself.

But unfortunately, there's more:

“Liberals are always going to want to create their utopia — if they just have a little bit more tax money, if they just let a few more illegal immigrants in— they would just create this wonderful melting pot and it would all be beautiful and we’d run through the field of flowers. Well that’s not going to happen, and we have to have polices that are going to work.”

“The reality is that if you allow illegal immigration to continue in your area you will destroy yourself eventually,” said Beason. “If you don’t believe illegal immigration will destroy a community go and check out parts of Alabama around Arab and Albertville.”

No doubt Beason was speaking from the heart on this one (4.00 / 4)

Don't just send the brown people back where they came from, "empty the clip."  Don't you suppose Klan members also used to exhort citizens to "do what needs to be done" about the black problem?

Beason and Paul Sanford (R, Huntsville) signed onto the amicus brief supporting the radical Arizona immigration lawsuit last summer and he's been trying to milk the immigration issue for several years, claiming that "the number one issue in the state of Alabama is illegal immigration."

It's ironic that just last week Republicans in the Alabama Legislature cited the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords to explain their fear of the public and in fact proposed to lock the public out of the State House, but this week you have Senator Scott Beason (R, Gardendale) using shoot 'em up language in his speeches.  So much for toning down the rhetoric.

Work harder and work smarter!

This has created quite a stir on twitter (4.00 / 5)

The most revealing tweet so far, from Dale (look at those violent, hateful, bloodthirsty liberals over there ) Jackson:

@TheDaleJackson I wish everyone who is whining about Beason advocating violence would be a victim of actual violence.

Work harder and work smarter!

I'm so glad Jackson is gone from LiA. (4.00 / 2)
That tweet validates every nasty thing I thought of him.

Are you surprised? (4.00 / 1)
I mean Dale reminds me of one of my exes, he was a narcissistic jackass just like him down to a tee.  Hence why he is now my ex...

ummm.... isn't Beason attacking his money base? (4.00 / 3)

Bluebearcat.... I added a quote from the article to your diary.  If that's not ok, feel free to delete it.

But this really jumped out at me:

He said that Republicans that do not support immigration reform efforts may fail to do so because they are supported by businesses who utilize illegal workers as a cheap labor source.

Hello? Isn't that a big part of their financial base of support?  Go tell those construction companies, those small business lawn companies, landscapers, painters, farmers, etc. etc. that you're uncoupling some of the cars on their gravy train.

Now tell consumers that prices will rise because the employers have to hire employees who'll demand at least minimum wage and decent working conditions.

hmmm..... I'm going to start popping the popcorn now.  It's going to be FUN.

Chicken Anyone? (4.00 / 3)
The slaughterhouses for most of the big chicken plants are chock full of illegal immigrants.  Every once in a while they get raided and fined, sometimes shutdown.  After a bit of time they are back up and running.  As long as there is money to be made by the big Corporations with "cheap labor" overseas or from within our borders, supplied by illegals, there will never be any meaningful immigration reform.  The larger concern here is that I find the Country slowly slipping backwards regarding human rights.  The haters were in hiding for a long period of time, but now have taken hold again in the light of day!  They are emboldend by the hard right, the Limbaughs, Becks, and Beasons!  There is a movement afoot in this Country aimed at setting us back in time, when minorities lived in fear, or fought back and were found guilty of something that landed them in prison, or worse.  We are slowly becoming a Nation divided by racial lines, hatred, and distrust, as well as a lack of compassion for others.  The "Nuts" are winning, and we have to keep fighting them to again put this Country back on the right path.  History shows us that Hate is a contageous disease, hard to stop once started.  Our fight has to continue with the Congress to achieve new legislation that stops the outsourcing, and the employment of illegals.  Corporate America must pay fair wages, provide for a safe working environment, and jobs with benefits, here at home, or face fines and tax penalties.  Win this fight, and you again begin to bury the haters.  When "haters" are employed, at the working level, they love everybody, even if they are faking it!

There are only two choices (4.00 / 2)
We either to continue to act like a state of cavemen or we become politically & scientifically correct. Then we crunch the numbers to try to figure out which one would bring in more outside business.

Beason has been milking the immigration issue for a while (4.00 / 3)

According to his campaign website, Beason not only sponsored a bill to make penalties tougher on illegal immigrants, but he's also been down the Tim James "English only" road, sponsoring bills to make English the official language of Alabama and only give the driver's license exam in English.  Definitely pandering to the far right.  Still, it's remarkable that he would be so brazen as to say "empty the clip and do what has to be done," even to a Republican crowd in Cullman.

As our Senator, Scott Beason sponsored bills:

  • to protect Alabamians from Obamacare – SB-233
  • to allow the people to vote to make ALL gambling in Alabama illegal
  • to require the Alabama Driver’s license exam to be given in English only
  • to return property appraisals to every 4 years instead of annually
  • to make penalties tougher on illegal immigrants
  • to mandate that Jefferson County hire a County Manager
  • to protect the rights of the unborn
  • to remove the state tax on groceries without raising other taxes
  • that would require English as the official language of Alabama
  • to ban tax payer subsidized benefits for same-sex couples
  • to prohibit felons from voting

Beason sponsored removing the grocery tax? (4.00 / 1)
Let no good deed go unpunished right

[ Parent ]
Fine print (4.00 / 1)
"without raising other taxes"  In other words, Beason would have removed the grocery tax and offset the revenue by cutting other programs.  Not likely to happen.  This way he gets to say he tried, without any danger of having to make good on it.

Follow the link (4.00 / 3)

to the Cullman Times article... and you'll find comments like this:

They have been busily working to overwhelm us with the number of illegals, both border hopping and popping out anchor babies rapid fire. We have, thus far, cooperated in our own destruction by funding this invasion. How crazy is that?

We cannot support the Catholic/Hispanic population explosion any longer. Let employers spend some quality jail time and we will stop a lot of the problem. Require birth certificates for school registration.

Stop abusing American citizens.

I've just been assembling research for a post about the GOP's demographic problem with the Spanish-speaking public.  Folks like this will only help the process along.

Keep writing, lady!

Stomach is turning.... (4.00 / 4)

Pass the buck (4.00 / 4)
We have an idiotic Republican Governor, House and Senate. They have no earthly idea how to create new jobs so they're going to blame the Mexicans for the unemployment situation. I'm not buying it.

Beason responds after criticism - it gets better (4.00 / 4)
of course the old it's taken out of context line

But Beason said the quote stemmed from a story he told at the beginning of the breakfast.

"I began telling the story about a family visiting a big city when some guy with a knife or gun jumps out from behind some bushes and comes at them," Beason said. "The story talks about how a Democrat handles the situation, I think I said the Democrat tells the guy he'll put together a charity basketball league or something to raise money to help him. The second family, that father has a gun but takes only one shot. The third family, and that father also has a gun, but he empties the clip. He solves the problem."

Solving problems was one of the themes of Saturday's speech, Beason said.

"I think we face a lot of problems and we need to tackle them with everything we have, with all of our brain power, our imagination and with courage," Beason said. "That's what I meant by emptying the clip."

Beason's use of the story comes almost a month after U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Gifford was shot and seriously wounded by a gunman as she spoke at a Tucson, AZ. supermarket. In all, 19 people were wounded and six were killed in the rampage. The attack sparked a national debate about incendiary rhetoric and the potential for political violence.

Beason acknowledged that his use of the story to make his point might not have been the best decision.

"Frankly, (I) didn't think about what happened in Arizona but I wish I had." Beason said. "I think it was maybe the wrong example to use, but honestly I didn't call for violence to solve political problems."

if you think that's any better, then I have oceanfront property in Cullman to sell you.

The explanation is worse than the original gaffe (4.00 / 3)

In the first place, what kind of stereotype is it to have a family visit the "big city" and a guy with a knife or a gun jumps out at them?  Black or brown guy, right?

And then the father that supposedly solves the problem the right way is the one that "empties the clip"?  What part of "Thou shalt not kill" did Scott Beason miss in Bible study class?  I'm serious, this guy is all about solving problems through violence and I do not for a moment think Jesus would approve of his story or his philosophy.  He needs to go spend some quality time getting right with his God, because this crap is wrong.

Work harder and work smarter!

according to my twitter feed, Beason is on the Dale Jackson show (4.00 / 4)
tomorrow. if any of yall Huntsville folks can stomach listening to it, I would be interested to hear how he bungles his comments and thoughts on immigration even more.

He said the stupidity I expected him to say (4.00 / 3)

He is truly a man with one thumb up his ass and the other in his mouth.

He mostly talked about how his statement is part of an inside, right-wing joke. When asked about the actual illegal immigration problem, he said (in his hillbilly, slang voice) "We need Arizona type legislation". (which means he is more interested in spreading hate, rather than dealing with the issue...it's how they pass the buck)

And he actually said Alabama can get thousands of jobs for legal Alabamians. Never mind the fact that when Arizona passed some tough anti-IA laws a few years ago, it resulted in a massive drive to hire temporary workers that failed miserably.Plus the 2nd worst economy in America.

Immigration. The economy. Jobs. Education. Global warming. Pick a topic and it's a topic where the right is completly clueless.

It's really funny stuff. (4.00 / 3)

Right wing radio that is. Think of it like a drinking game. You take a shot everytime a right-winger says something construction or can follow up some left-wing criticism with facts or just something remotely tangible to base it on.

Rush, Hannity & all them will say something along the lines of: "Global warming is a fake because....look... Obamacare is socialism." It's hysterical!

Of course the drinking game is only fun if your not a drinker because you'll never open the bottle. :-D

we're coming into 2012 (4.00 / 3)

the GOP has its marching orders. The "Security Issue" this time around will be Illegal Immigration. They will continue to hammer it mercilessly. In fact, I might go so far as to say that the rhetoric will increase, rather than tone down.

They need to get the FOX fans riled up, and the best way to do that is to convince them that they are under a full-scale invasion from South of the Border.

Bin Ladin remains, if not alive, at least 'undead' media-wise, and folks are getting tired of him, so this will be the hunting cry.

A blast from the past, but very instructive!
