Holy Cowgirl! You'd never know from her campaign ads this year that Kay Ivey thinks Jim Folsom, Jr. rocks. Although she's keeping her admiration quiet now, she wasn't nearly as circumspect in 2007 as we see in this handwritten, heartfelt note written on her own stationery:
Don't you just get a lump in your throat?
"I salute you for the effective leadership you have given to land Thyssen Krupp! This is a huge success. Your long time relations with German leaders is significant and has paid off once again. I want you to know how I appreciate you and your leadership."
But just last week, the cowgirl was roping a different steer, criticizing Folsom on everything from the PACT program (that tanked while she was in charge of it, remember) to his leadership in the Alabama Senate. It's not hard to figure out why. As Ivey's own press release from 10/29 notes:
Ms. Ivey further stated that candidates who fear defeat often resort to negative campaign techniques.
That's the best explanation for Ivey's campaign strategy I've seen so far.
