District 4 Democrats Pressure Aderholt on SCHIP Vote

This via email, from Democrats in Alabama's 4th Congressional District:

IT’S TIME TO TAKE ACTION!  Help put the pressure on Aderholt to vote to override Bush’s veto…

As you know, President Bush vetoed a children's health care bill that would help states pay for millions of kids—mostly poor—to see a doctor when they're sick.1 Not only do 72% of Americans support this bill, but 61% of Republicans do!2
In the coming days, Congress will try to override Bush's veto with a two-thirds majority vote. The Senate already passed the bill with a bipartisan, veto-proof majority—but we still need several more votes in the House. You can help make this happen.

In Alabama, Rep. Robert Aderholt (R) initially voted "no" on this bill—but nationally, he is considered among those most likely Republicans to reconsider if we let him know that the people he represents back home are paying attention. Write a letter to the editor.  You’ll find contact information at the bottom of this email.  Call Congressman Aderholt at his Washington office, which handles legislative issues, and voice your opinion.  Be sure to say that you're a constituent—and mention your hometown.  Be polite while letting him know that you want the children in the 14 Alabama counties that he represents to have the same health insurance that his two children enjoy.

Another great way to ramp up pressure is for local elected leaders across the state to urge him to override Bush's veto—for the children of Alabama. Please call our state legislators and ask them to urge Rep. Aderholt to override Bush's veto and protect the health of Alabama's kids.

They're turning up the heat on Aderholt directly and on his supporters in the media and in political office.  Very smart.  I hope they are also making calls to the people who finance Aderholt's campaigns.  Money is a pressure point that's often overlooked by grassroots activists, but by toadying to Bush, Aderholt is putting those folks' investment in his political career at risk.  He's reducing their return on investment, in other words.

That is Great! (4.00 / 1)

Bush is a bad investment!
