| Huntsville attorney Mitchell Howie sent a letter to supporters this morning, emphasis mine: As many of you know I have been looking at a run for congress over the past month. Over the past couple of days I have been in DC for the Winter DNC meeting. I met a lot of representatives, party leaders and activists and received a lot of support, enocouragement and investments in my run. Chairman/Governor Kaine and Representative Wasserman-Schulz met me and both mentioned my candidacy during their speeches at individual caucuses as a show of their support. As such, after deep consideration and talking with many local leaders and activists, I have decided to run and win the 5th district seat to represent the good folks of Northern Alabama!
This is from the bio page at Howie's law firm: Capt Mitchell J. Howie recently completed his service on Active Duty in the United States Air Force as an attorney in the Judge Advocate General Corps. He entered the Air Force through the Direct Appointment Program on May 27th, 2005 and began his active duty service on July 3rd, 2005. His official date of separation was September 28th, 2009.
Howie worked on the staff of Democrat Rep. Sylvester Turner in the Texas Legislature back in the 2002-04 time frame and served as his chief of staff for a while. Although Howie is a young guy without a lot of name id -- his grandfather was a well known physician in Huntsville, but he hasn't lived here long himself -- people who know him think very highly of him and believe he will do well in this race. Interestingly, Howie says he has been in contact with Steve Raby, an oft mentioned potential AL-05 candidate, and has asked for Raby's support.
Howie for North Alabama's website is not yet active but you can contact him (or send support) at 107 North Side Square, Huntsville, Alabama. I think we have some recent video of Mitchell Howie introducing himself to a local Democratic group. Look for that later. |
