Help LIA Donate to Haiti Relief

by: countrycat

Here's how to make a small contribution to the Haiti relief effort without spending any extra money! For every purchase made through Amazon via the Left in Alabama link here on the far right hand column, we'll donate a dollar to Doctors Without Borders for their Haiti relief efforts. Doctors Without Borders

A dollar may not sound like much, but before the earthquake, 55% of Haitians lived on less than $1.25 per day.

This offer is valid through February 14th!  So keep LIA and Haiti in mind when you're purchasing that romantic gift for your special someone...

If you're a regular Amazon customer, we certainly hope you're going through the link here at the Left in Alabama site because we receive a small percentage commission when you do that. The dollars add up and help us purchase better video equipment, throw a holiday party, and more.

Note: The Progressive Electorate also participates and if you don't buy through us, head over there! They're also offering the same deal - that's where we got the idea.

I just made the first purchase.  A book recommended by Dardango:  The Political Brain.

tornado in Madison County (4.00 / 1)

YOW!  Just went right over the farm.

Mooncat was in town at a Democratic Party planning meeting and sent this from her Blackberry:

Tornado passed 2 houses away. Trees all over. We sat in the front room until the fence flew by.

You picked a good meeting to miss.

Fingers crossed that everyone is ok who was in the path of the storm.  Looks like it stayed on the ground for quite a while.

Luck was with the Madison County Dems (4.00 / 1)

But in future we really need to move the meeting to a safe place as soon as we hear the sirens, not after we've turned on the TV and checked the local radar -- 'cause by then trees and fences may be airborn.

I hope there were no serious injuries or fatalities in the wake of this storm.  Obviously, there was considerable property damage.

Made a purchase... (4.00 / 2)
Wish I had been aware of it when I bought a digital cam package a few weeks ago.

we'll add a dollar anyway (4.00 / 1)

in your honor!

It's amazing how quickly it adds up.  Mooncat bought us a new digital video camera (that we used at our "stalking Parker Griffith" debut), and it made over $10 for the blog.

A dollar here and a dollar there and we're soon talking about real money for Haiti and for LIA!

I did make a purchase tonight (4.00 / 2)

through the LIA link.

I'm thinking of picking up some books (4.00 / 2)

(And seeing if my parents want me to get anything while I'm at it so we can buy them all at once.)

Anyone have any good recs for books about Southern or Alabama politics?

check out the LIA list (4.00 / 1)
some good Wayne Flint ones on there. I haven't read them but on my to do list for sure.

But you absolutely gotta read the George Wallace biography by Marshall Frady. Any of Frady's bio's are good really but Wallace is a have to.

Kingfish by Richard White about Huey Long is a must read.

I just saw that (4.00 / 2)

It wasn't turning up when I loaded the front page for some reason, so I felt kind of nerdy for having asked once I spot it, lol.

I wish I had more money. :p A trip to the library will be in order.

I have already made my donation to Haiti through the Red Cross. (4.00 / 2)
I will make sure to buy anything needed on Amazon through LiA.

Get medical help to Haiti (0.00 / 0)

It's great to donate to Haitian relief for Amazon purchases, but I'd like to call your attention to the "Send a nurse to Haiti" ad over at the far right.  Liberal blogs across the country are running this ad for free.  In the first week liberal blog readers have contributed an amazing amount of money -- enough to send dozens of nurses to Haiti for 10 day shifts.  We'll be running the ad for at least another week.

No pressure, but even if you don't need anything from Amazon, you can help send a nurse to Haiti.  And btw, these are union nurses.

Work harder and work smarter!
