make the left in alabama logo a link to the home page.
That's an important usability feature. People are used to clicking on a site's logo to get to the main home page. You see it a lot when you do usability tests.
But what else is new. It's hard to teach an old dog new tricks, but I will eventually learn how to navigate in the new and improved living room. I like the new kick a$$ logo, but I was more comfortable in the old living room, it was more "cozy".
BTW, what about the spellchecker for my friend piggieheart and me?
I regard any inadvertant mis-spellings by Redeye or Piggieheart (or anyone else) as evidence of conviction outrunning literary technique.
Or, maybe, mis-spelling is just a new form of performance art...
In an article from the Washington Times, it seems that Colin Powell is expressing doubts over Obama's agenda.
"I'm concerned at the number of programs that are being presented, the bills associated with these programs and the additional government that will be needed to execute them," Mr. Powell said in an excerpt of an interview with CNN's John King, released by the network Friday morning.
What do you guys think about this?
after the Michael Jackson-thon and the discussions that quickly devolve into shouting matches.
I can barely stand to watch anymore.
But I don't see General Powell or most any Republican offering alternatives, just criticism.
Show me some other credible options (and tax cuts! tax cuts! tax cuts! isn't it), and I'll be happy to take a look. As progressives, we're open to new ideas and methods to achieving our goals.
But, with no plans and real alternatives (remember the Republican budget that didn't contain any numbers?), I just don't think the GOP has much credibility right now.
Thats the problem these days, its almost as if the GOP is TRYING on purpose (and very successfully I might add) to ruin their reputation. For the most part they have no credibility when it comes to the general public and they rush most of their ideas out without a concrete strategy.
With that being said, I do feel like Obama is trying to do too much too quickly. He has a 4 year term and it seems like he is trying to do everything he wants to do in a single term come hell or high water.
Stimulus, Cap and Trade, Health Care Reform, Imigration Reform, just to name a few.
I disagreed with the stimulus bill (as well as the Bush stimulus bill and TARP). The answer isn't to throw money to the local governments who are mismanaging what they have, but rather to force a balanced budget and make hard decisions on what can't be sustained. We as consumers can't max out all our credit cards, and then expect to get more credit cards.
I disagree with Cap and Trade not for the fact that we need a smarter way to deal with our energy production/consumtion, but for the fact that I'm against the government selling indulgences to the worst polluting companies the way that the popes used to sell indulgences to their sinners. I suggest taking the money set aside for this bill and use it to create strong incentives to invest in renewable energies, kind of similiar to what the government did to give a booster shot to the housing market ($8k first time home buyer tax credit).
As far as health care reform is concerned, it must happen, no one doubts that. But we all must be reminded that Rome wasn't built in a day. How long have we been trying to get this done? 60 years? Obama wants to finish it by his first year in office. I'm not saying that isn't doable, I'm just saying there isn't anything wrong with taking a step back and say "Lets be smart about this." He's got 4 years in office, may he use them wisely instead of signing bad bills because they were rushed through the house and senate without being properly vetted.
Imigration reform also needs to happen without a doubt.
All I'm saying is that these were/are 4 HUGE projects that could each use a year to two years apiece in the vetting/making process. I'd like Obama to select his priorities wisely and focus on them one at a time. Devoting all the time to make the bills smart and most importantly fiscally sustainable.
I really didn't mean to write a novel, but for the TL:DR guys:
I think Obama is doing to much too quickly. In our struggling economy, just like us, our government needs to tighten their belt and cut spending. Any bills that are passed need to be paid for without piling on to our debt.
But the problems are pressing, and the political cycle is looming.
For what it's worth, the "conventional wisdom" is that he has a year to get the most important stuff done because after that, it's midterm elections. Then, maybe another year to 6 months before reelection rolls around.
My impression is that he and his advisors think this is their best chance to enact reform and change - and they're going for it.
