Josh Segall Hires Former DCCC Southern Field Director, Chad Horrell, As Campaign Manager

I hope Congressman Mike Rogers (AL-03) is looking forward to retirement or a lucrative career as an industry lobbyist - or any future that doesn't include a seat in the US House of Representatives.

Josh Segall for CongressJosh Segall, who is making another run at Rogers in 2010, announced that he has hired Chad Horrell as campaign manager.  Horrell brings an enormous amount of campaign experience and field organizing know-how to the Segall campaign.

From Segall's press release:

Chad oversaw the national party's field programs for every targeted race in the South, from Virginia to Florida to Texas.  He worked with the country's strongest candidates, many of whom went to Congress, and orchestrated some of the largest efforts their districts had ever seen to have conversations with voters at their doorstep.

This is exactly what we intend to do in this campaign
...

It's an indication - as if we needed one - that Segall will be a much more formidable candidate this cycle than in 2008.  Not because he's changing his positions on the issues, but because he's finally attracting the attention of the national party, its candidate support structure, and fundraising assistance.

Congratulations to Josh Segall and a big Alabama welcome to Chad Horrell too.

Help Josh pay his new campaign manager and get his message out to voters in AL-03 by donating now to the Segall campaign...

I did a quick Google search on Horrell, and found this article from what appears to be his hometown paper

Caught up in the maelstrom of a presidential campaign, a young man from Evansville travels from state to state, living out of a suitcase and working 18-hour days on little more than adrenaline and cheeseburgers.

Chad Horrell — paid staffer for Democratic candidate John Edwards and a leading organizer of Edwards' Iowa caucus campaign — is doing exactly what he envisioned for himself when he graduated from the University of Southern Indiana four years ago.

I just love the beginning about the adrenaline and cheesburgers. For about 2 months after the presidential election, I couldn't even think about eating pizza, Subway, or any sort of fast food.  We lived on junk food and adrenaline those last few weeks at HQ....

Holy cow... can it be that a progressive Democratic candidate from Alabama is going to get real help from the national party?

Looks like Josh Segall's well on his way.

A good sign (4.00 / 1)

Edwards had a good organization in Iowa -- and Horrell has experience in Southern races as well.  Looks like Segall is bringing in folks with recent experience in a bigger political pond.  I'm hopeful that between Segall's campaign and Davis' -- and possible the AL-07 race -- we'll see an influx of political technology that will be very good for Alabama Democrats across the board.

And I second countrycat's observation that we need to help Josh pay his new campaign manager and get his message out to voters in AL-03 by donating now to the Segall campaign ... The fundraising quarter ends Tuesday and he needs to make a strong showing.

Work harder and work smarter!

you don't think there could be a connection... (4.00 / 1)
between Dem's superiority in on-line communications and Alabama's reluctance to make online communications easier and more widely available, do you?

A small group of thoughtful people could change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.

That ... (0.00 / 0)
Or the general "no innovation is good innovation" mentality that seems so ingrained here.  It's so hard to discern motivation, but the result is that we are very slow to change.

Work harder and work smarter!

Congrats to Chad (4.00 / 2)
I rarely post on the site but I must say that I am so glad for both the Segal campaign and Chad. I was on the Edwards campaign with Chad in Iowa and he is a great guy. I think he will fit in Alabama and do very well for Segal. Congrats Chad!
