Josh Segall Officially Kicks Off His Campaign for AL-03 Against Mike Rogers

Josh Segall for Congress - A:-03It's official!  Josh Segall is making another run at Mike Rogers in Alabama's 3rd Congressional district.  After an amazingly close race in 2008, Segall is already attracting more state and national attention.

Expect this race to be on everyone's "hot list."

Segall's announcement email states:

Because of our success last cycle, our race this cycle will be one of the nation's most high-profile.  That means more time, focus and outreach to spread our message of economic growth and prosperity for Alabama and for rural areas all over the country.  With national exposure and with your continued advice and generosity, I believe, to my core, that we will win this race.

From your email, to the voters' ears and pocketbooks, Josh!

There are just eight days left in this reporting period, but that's plenty of time to give Segall a big financial boost. Click here to donate!

On the flip, you can watch clips from his 2008 debate with Mike Rogers.  If that won't open your wallet, nothing will...

Isn't it time we replaced Mike Rogers with someone who can make us proud of Alabama?

This is great news (4.00 / 1)
Josh Segall is a fantastic candidate, and would do great things if elected to Alabama's 3rd Congressional seat!

Thanks for posting this. He does look good (4.00 / 2)
and seems to have the fire in the belly to take on Rogers.  This will be a fun one to watch.

Last chance? (4.00 / 1)

Bob Ingram, the now deceased long time political columnist for the Montgomery Advertiser, used to say you could run once for a political office and lose. In some ways it was even benficial, you built an organization, you learned where to raise funds and you got name recognition.

However run and lose a second time and you were finished.  If Segall loses this time, will he be done as a candidate?

Interesting question (4.00 / 1)
But it's one that shouldn't materialize. What I'm more concerned with is what will happen after Josh wins AL-03 in '10 and then the redistricting comes through and turns AL3 much redder. Congressman Segall will be in a tough spot in '12, but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.

Perhaps you are right (4.00 / 2)

But I have to tell you that as a resident of the bluest county in CD-3 and perhaps in the state, I have to say that Segall did not generate the kind of fire and enthusiam in 2008 that I would have expected.

Add to that the fact that 2008 may have been the perfect storm for a Democratic candidate in CD-3. The economy was in the tank, Obama turned out unprecedented numbers of new and solidly democratic voters and a Repub candidate who was hardly charismatic.

Not saying that Segall can't win but I suggest he worry about 2010 and let 2012 fend for itself. It will not be a cakewalk and if he loses a second time, he may well be through as a player.

sure (4.00 / 1)

of course he could be done if he loses, politics is a risky business.  the question is what's the case that he'll win this time when he didn't win last time.  it's a big district and you have to meet a lot of people so he didn't have time or money to generate that excitement.  He didn't have the money to run many ads and none that were biographical.  This time he's starting very early, already knows a lot of people and should get the support of the DCCC. His message was strong last time--watch the debate--he just didn't have the time or money to get out anything but the negatives on rogers (which there are many)

the district will only be redder in 2012 if the GOP takes the state senate.

Interesting, OP (0.00 / 0)
You must live in a Red County. Obama hurt him in the last election by turning out every last Republican to vote against him. It takes much money to get a message out, both positive and negative. He got his negative message but did not have enough money to get his positive message out. 2012 can wait since no one knows what redistricting will occur. When one is young and has real fire to change the world, who are we to even speculate what his future holds. Perhaps, you can get to know him and promote him in your community, that is, if you want real change.

Actually the bluest of blue (4.00 / 1)

My county has been carried by the Democratic candidate for President in every election since Reconstruction ended, including Gore, Kerry and Dukasis (sp).

I disagree on the Obama effect. Obama brought a wave of voters (both black and white) who had either never voted before of rarely voted. I think that helped Segall, not hurt him. The challenge will be to get them back to the polls.

However in fairness, many feel as you do which is why Davis as the  Demo nominee for Governor worries them.

Who are we to speculate? We are the voters who will elect or defeat him. We have every right to speculate and history has not been kind to a candidate who loses the same race twice.

Will it take money? Yes, huge amounts. Part of the problem is that TV time must be purchased in 4 major media markets to reach all of the voters.

The DCCC ignored him (4.00 / 1)
for the most part which didn't help. they could have spent a little more money here and gotten us over the top. well we will do it this time.
