Would you boycott Limbaugh's sponsors?

by: Grace

Sun Feb 01, 2009 at 10:34:49 AM CST

If you are as tired as I am about the hate and lies being spwed out by Rush Limbaugh and his ilk, you might want to consider writing to his sponsors and informing them of your displeasure over Limbaugh's remark that he hopes President Obama "FAILS."  The Daily Kos and Democratic Underground have provided this list (below) of Limbaugh Sponsors.

GEICO has now wirthdrawn it's sponsorship of Limbaugh's show, but the show is still being broadcasted on the Armed Services Network.  Some of you Legal Eagles out there please double check me on this one, but isn't it a violation of the Hatch Act to broadcast such a politically biased show to government employees (service men and women) on a network paid for, in part,  by U. S. Tax dollars?

Make that "spewed" and "withdrawn"...next time I'll be sure to put on my glasses before hitting "save."

Limbaugh's sponsors (0.00 / 0)

Nice to hear that GEICO has withdrawn their support from Limbaugh's show.  This is one of the side-benefits of making Rush the de-facto leader and face of the Republican party.  The longer the spotlight is on him the worse he looks, and the worse he looks the fewer the advertisers who want their product associated with him.

I hope we don't neglect Sean Hannity's sponsors either, including Ruth's Chris Steakhouse which has a rather toney establishment in Huntsville.  Several of my Democratic friends like to eat there and have told me they are going to keep doing it, Hannity or not.  OK, keep eating there but could you maybe mention to the manager that you are doing it in spite of their sponsorship of Hannity, not because of it.  That way you can have your steak and make a point too.

Ruth Chris Steakhouse? (0.00 / 0)
Why didn't I know Ruth Chris was a $ean In$anity sponsor?  I used to like to eat and drink there, but now that I know, they will not get anymore of my hard earned money.

To clarify about GEICO (0.00 / 0)
You say GEICO has withdrawn their sponsorship, so the GEICO.com email addresses above should only be used to thank them for that, if at all, right?

Work harder and work smarter!

Right (4.00 / 1)
And I think a few "thank you" notes to GEICO is definitely in order.

Count Me In! (4.00 / 1)

I'm boycotting Faux News too. I am going to call my cable provider and tell them to remove Fox News from my lineup. If I go into a business and they have a TeeVee playing and it's tuned to Faux News I will ask them to change the station.  If they refuse, I will leave.

Faux News, they Distort what we Decide and they are UNfair and Unbalanced.

Boycott (4.00 / 1)
Boycott like crazy. One of the real ways to make a difference is with money. Preferably get someone with much money to protest an issue. If we cannot do it with someone with mega bucks, then do it by the sheer numbers.

I never listen to Limbaugh (4.00 / 1)

To find out what he is reputed to have said I had to do some searching and finally found the horses mouth (or at least the transcript) that that claims to be what he said @ http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/daily/site_011609/content/01125113.guest.html.

Reading the transcript, it seems that Limbaugh only wants Obama to fail in the sense of his policies failing because he doesn’t agree with the policies. A portion of the transcript says, “I know what his plans are, as he has stated them. I don't want them to succeed.” Later it says, “He is the president of the United States, he's my president, he's a human being, and his ideas and policies are what count for me, not his skin color, not his past, not whatever ties he doesn't have to being down with the struggle, all of that's irrelevant to me.” Later in the transcript Limbaugh says why he isn’t a Republican.

If you can stomach listening to Limbaugh and Hannity at the same time, there’s a video clip of them discussing this issue @ http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/daily/site_012209/content/01125108.guest.html.

Correct me if I'm wrong (0.00 / 0)

Reading the transcript, it seems that Limbaugh only wants Obama to fail in the sense of his policies failing because he doesn’t agree with the policies...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if Obama's policies fail, the economic recovery and the withdrawal from Iraq also fail. How is that not wishing for America to fail?

It's amazing that Rush "Oxycontin" Limbaugh avowed that anyone who questioned Bush was unpatriotic, and now he not only openly wishes for Obama to fail, but has people actually defending him for saying it.

Jeez Louise!!

Emailing these folks is interesting. (4.00 / 1)
I actually had to say I would stop buying my beloved "emu oil" if they did not stop advertising on the Limbaugh show. Oreck is easy. Interestingly, emu oil is for pain relief so I assume Limbaugh has the corner on that product.

Curious (0.00 / 0)
I have never heard of emu oil, must less it's use as  a pain reliever. Please educate me (and that is a serious request)

Blue-emu oil (4.00 / 1)
Up above the comment list, there is a link to Blue-emu. It is sold at Walmart, CVS etc. If you go to the link, click Emu-oil or products. The site says it is a fatty acid that penetrates the skin and helps joints. It acts as a carrier of gucosamine chondrite, which I hear is great. This product is absorbed through the skin, while glucosamine is traditionally taken orally. This is the extent of my knowledge.

[ Parent ]
Well, damn! (0.00 / 0)
If they quit sponsoring Rush Limbaugh's ravings I'm definitely going to try some Blue Emu oil for my creaky joints.

I figured emu oil was some kind of product to treat dry skin.  Do you suppose the emu survives the oil extraction process?

I try to learn something new every day. I hope this is helpful to OP. I have a feeling the emu does not survive the process. I have a friend who raises them in Tuscaloosa. I can ask her.

Emu Oil (0.00 / 0)
I live about 15 miles from an Emu Farm just north of Headland, Alabama.  I loved that farm until I found out that the Emu people were actually supporting Rushhead's thinly disguised Klan/Neo Nazi mentality.  I understand you pain, Eagle, so thanks for being a brave warrior.

Wait, wait, I am not in pain. (4.00 / 1)
I was trying to do the right thing by just emailing people that I would not buy their product if they advertised on Limbaugh. Old Prosecutor has the pain. I find that going to the gym 3 times a week takes away anything that hurts.

Wait till you get older (4.00 / 1)

my wee lad or lassie. You will wake up with pains and wonder WTH did I do to get those? And the only way going to the gym takes those pains away is for you to hit yourself in the head with the dumb bells.

I Tried to Boycott Faux News Today. (4.00 / 1)

A family member had outpatient surgery this morning at The Surgery Center.  The TeeVee in the waiting room was tuned to Faux News.  I asked the receptionist if she could change the channel from Faux News to MSNBC or CNN.  An elderly silver head woman must have heard me ask to change the channel because said loudly "I'm watching Faux News, It's the only news media thats not afraid to tell the truth about Obama!"

The receptionist looked at me and said "since she was here first and is watching that channel It wouldn't be fair to change it for you".  I told her I understood.  Then I proceeded to sit next to the woman and for the next two hours debunked each and every Faux News lie.

This  are some of the lies Faux News is spinning.

The Stimulus Plan  will cost $900 Billion Dollars.

The Stimulus plan won't create jobs.

The Stimulus won't have any effect until 3 years from now, if then.

Democrats are coming out against the Stimulus plan because the spending is out of control.

It's too much spending on "entitlement programs" in the Stimulus plan.

Iran and Pakistan are about to attack us any day.

So, I tried to boycott Faux News today.  I couldn't very well walk out of The Surgery Center and take my family member with me so I did the next best thing.

Boycott Limbaugh's Sponsors? (0.00 / 0)

Why?  Do you really want to punish somebody for exercising free speech?  Besides, and I'll be honest, in this instance he isn't wrong.

Here's a link to an opinion piece on this subject that I agree with.

ENOUGH (0.00 / 0)

Why do you always act like you don't understand?

What they are saying is, and it really is quite simple, that if it was wrong to go after Wright than isn't it wrong to go after Liumbaugh.

You are welcome.

HV is correct (0.00 / 0)

Some of what I typed got lost when I pasted it in. Not sure how.  It SHOULD HAVE read:

"So you see somdbody doing something and you right what you consider a wrong by... visiting that same wrong on somebody else?  This makes sense to you?"

In other words, you consider what happened to Wright because of his words is wrong, but are willing to do the same thing to Limbaugh using Wright as an excuse.  How does that make sense at all?  Morally speaking, is it right to kill my cousin because somebody killed yours?

I Tried to Boycott Faux News Again (4.00 / 1)
This time at my favorite Deli.  There were two TeeVee Sets, one in the front tuned to Faux News, and one in the back tuned to CNN.  Both on mute. Since they were both on mute I didn't say anything.
