AL-03: Josh Segall Outraises Rogers for the Second Quarter

Democrat Josh Segall outdid incumbent Republican Mike Rogers in first quarter fundraising, $270,304.68 to $104,385.  Now he's outraised Rogers for the second quarter of 2008 as well.  The Segall campaign issued this statement:

“Mike Rogers is bought and bossed by Big Oil and his biggest donors.  Our fundraising success is a clear sign that the people of the 3rd District are tired of Rogers’ Washington politics that have gotten our gas and grocery costs out of control and sent our jobs overseas. People now work 1-2 hours a day just pay for their gas to get work, their dollar at the grocery store gets them less than ever, and they continue to wait for their sons and daughters to return home from Iraq,” said Segall.

Mike Rogers’ record clearly shows he’s voting in lock step with the failed Bush/Cheney agenda and only fighting for special interests like Big Oil while we continue to hand-over-fist for gas and groceries.  Rogers caved to his party when he voted to give away $28.8 billion of our tax dollars to Big Oil companies making record profits, he folded under his parties leadership when they told him to vote for CAFTA, and he gave in to Bush and Cheney when he voted against last year’s Farm Bill.

Segall continued, “I’m running for Congress to help take our country back from the special interests and Washington politicians who have created a big mess across the country.  I’ll work with Republicans and Democrats to invest in infrastructure and irrigation to bring new businesses and good jobs back to East Alabama so people don’t have to leave to find work.”

In addition to raising money, Segall has begun holding Town Hall Meetings across the district to hear straight from the people what he can do to help when he gets to Congress.

Comparing Rogers' July quarterly report  with his April quarterly report shows he reported net receipts of $237,839 in the 2nd quarter.

Here is Josh Segall's July quarterly report.  Comparing it with his April report shows net receipts of $276,016.38, including a $31,000 loan "made or guaranteed by the candidate."  Segall had cash on hand of $410,619.33 at the end of June -- that's less than Rogers has, but it's definitely enough to run a first rate campaign in the 3rd district.  And he's not through fundraising, either.  If you recall, Segall raised $75,000 just in the last week of June.  That's some enthusiastic support for a Democrat running in Alabama's third district!

Have y'all checked Josh Segall's issues page lately?  It's up now and includes this:

As your congressman, I will lead according to my guiding principles.

• Your congressman should wake up every day thinking of one thing: how to make your district more prosperous and more secure.

As your congressman, I will work every day to bring new jobs and economic opportunity to our district. My top priority will be serving the people who make this district great – our veterans, teachers, farmers, workers, and families.

• Your congressman must put his district above everything else—including his political party.

...

nything else.

• Your congressman’s first job is to listen to you.

That's the attitude you want in a Representative -- Segall has it and Rogers doesn't.  After 3 terms of the ineffective Mike Rogers, the folks in AL-03 are beginning to wonder "Is this how buyer's remorse feels?"  Lucky for them, there's a chance to trade him in for a new, hardworking Congressman, Josh Segall, coming up in November.
