Today was a first for me as an SDEC member - granted I don't have years of experience but this was the first time I've received a newsletter from the State Committee.

SDEC News front page

Here's the Message from the Chairman:

Dear SDEC Members,

As We celebrate the election Victories of many local Democratic candidates in the 2012 General Election and celebrate the second inauguration of President Barack Obama, our state party staff and I are already hard at work to ensure more victories in 2014.

Republicans say that the 2010 election was the end of the Alabama Democratic Party but while they continue their war on women, children, the sick and elderly, and middle class families, we are committed to a path that will lead to better days ahead.

Voter registration, candidate recruitment, fundraising, and sharing the ideals that we stand for cannot wait. The journey toward 2014 has already begun.

Communicating and sharing our message and commitment to building a better Alabama will make us stronger. Committing to walk that extra mile, to leave no rock unturned, and believing -- not hoping, but bel├Čeving -- that we shall overcome will inspire all of us to work for victory.

As I travel throughout this great state and see the determination in the faces of our fellow Democrats to fight on, I am inspired.

Your Chairman,

Judge Mark Kennedy

Among other things, the newsletter announces a grassroots fundraising drive. Over 150 folks donate monthly to the ADP, including some members of this blog. Please consider becoming one of them.

A good beginning. (0.00 / 0)

"SDEC" is not spelled out.  I finally figured that it stands for "State Democratic Executive Committee,"

Are those four pages the complete newsletter?  No indication of where to send contributions, phone numbers, etc?  Never assume that a reader has this information.

Headlines should always use action verbs to grab attention.  "A Message from the Chairman" as a headline is deadly.

a great mesage (4.00 / 1)
and hopefully a great future for the Party in Alabama. I am hoping Judge Kennedy will be able to pull iy off -especially when it comes to fielding strong Democrats for state offices!

WOW! Thanks for sharing this. (4.00 / 1)

Did it go just to SDEC members?  Ideally, the party should be sending out regular communications to all Democrats, but I know we have to start somewhere.

The best part about this newsletter, IMO, is that it shows progress.  The articles explain what the party has been doing to rebuild, provide definite metrics for the progress so far, and highlight the short-term goals (more monthly donors, more social media outreach, etc.).

Great job Judge Kennedy & the ADP staff!
