It's Opening Day At the Democratic Convention

... and Alabama Congresswoman Terri Sewell is one very busy lady!

Terri Sewell at DNC2012This morning she spoke at breakfast events for the Alabama and Iowa delegations and will also participate in the Women's Campaign Fund forum on women in politics and the media.  Later today Sewell will appear on the Martin Bashir show (MSNBC, 3 pm CST) to preview First Lady Michelle Obama’s speech and she will join Nancy Pelosi on the Convention Stage at 6 pm CST for a Celebration of the Democratic Women of the House.  Congresswoman Sewell issued this statement on opening day in Charlotte:

"I am so excited to be a part of the Alabama delegation as we prepare to officially name President Barack Obama as the Democratic nominee.  President Obama is the only choice for the 7th Congressional District and the best choice for our nation. The Alabama delegation is fired up and ready to re-elect President Obama.

This week, Democrats will celebrate President Obama’s accomplishments—29 straight months of job growth, healthcare reform, fair pay for women, financial reform, and so much more.  This Convention is about mapping out our road ahead.  President Obama has a plan to move our nation forward.  He believes that America prospers when hard work pays off, responsibility is rewarded, and everyone gets a fair shot.

President Obama puts people first, and that’s what matters most.  Over the next couple of months, we’re going to work harder than ever to carry this message to voters and see that President Barack Obama is re-elected!”

First Lady Michelle Obama will speak tonight in the 9 to 10 pm hour.  Alabama native and fair pay heroine Lilly Ledbetter will speak in the 8 to 9 pm slot.  Here is Tuesday's complete schedule at the Democratic Convention.

And here is the Democratic Platform which will be adopted later today.  From the Preamble:

We Democrats offer America the opportunity to move our country forward by creating an economy built to last and built from the middle out. Mitt Romney and the Republican Party have a drastically different vision. They still believe the best way to grow the economy is from the top down - the same approach that benefited the wealthy few but crashed the economy and crushed the middle class ...

The problems we're facing right now have been more than a decade in the making. We are the party of inclusion and respect differences of perspective and belief. And so, even when we disagree, we work together to move this country forward. But what is holding our nation back is a stalemate in Washington between two fundamentally different views of which direction America should take.

We must keep moving forward and doing the hard work of rebuilding a strong economy by betting on the American worker and investing in a growing middle class.

No War on Women here, nor War on Science.  This is the party of inclusion, of moving forward, of facing reality -- however harsh -- and dealing with it.
