It's All About Artur Davis ...

The DNC is having some fun with Artur Davis' new role as chief Obama disappointee.

Obama has delivered on a lot of promises he made.  Davis?  His promise has turned into sour grapes.

Now that Davis has snagged a primo speaking slot for himself at the GOP convention -- if 'primo' is the word for a slot on the night TV networks are not broadcasting the festivities --  it isn't surprising that some in his new party are resentful that the new kid gets to be "catnip for swing voters" while the African American Republicans who have fought the good fight in the Grand Ole Party "through thick and thin" get zip.

His transformation basically amounts to a political temper tantrum turned into political opportunity. His eyes were too big for his stomach when he decided to run for governor of Alabama and when he got shellacked in the primary he blamed everybody from the state party to Obama for not having his back. Now suddenly he’s a Republican? Any card carrying member of the African American GOP establishment should be disgusted. Making him the party poster boy when so many have fought so hard for so long is a smack in the face.  ...  There are half a dozen young dynamic African American Republicans more worthy of his coveted prime time speaking spot.

The resentment is understandable, but honestly, African Americans who have stuck with the Republican party "through thick and thin" are surely accustomed to getting smacked around by their party by now.  Just like Log Cabin Republicans -- the 2012 GOP platform explicitly supports the Defense of Marriage Act -- or the hispanic Republicans -- Joe Arpaio will address delegates at the Republican Convention.

The role of minorities and women in the Republican party is one of long suffering ... preferably in silence.

I don't think he's got sour grapes... (4.00 / 1)

or pretty much any other kind.

The guy is who he's always been- a Party of One.

"This is not a Republican or a Democratic issue. This is about the whole system being against us." - an Occupy protester at Obama's Des Moines office.

Personally... (4.00 / 1)

I think it's amusing to watch Artur's actions, but I'm not sure how smart is is of the DNC to run an ad reminding us of Obama's promises (just sayin').

Artur's like an angry little kid. The guy should have been honest when he ran for office as a Dem ("If I don't win, I'm going to the other side."), but I'm sure he will somehow financially profit from it.

"Disappointee" -- that's a good word. Maybe you should sell it to Stephen Colbert.

"Madness is rare in individuals - but in groups, parties, nations, and ages it is the rule."
Friedrich Nietzsche

Obama has kept the bulk of his promises (4.00 / 1)
More than I ever expected.  Which is why Repubs need shills like Artur to play the disappointee role.  Colbert is welcome to that word, by the way.

Work harder and work smarter!
